shoot all the time

I want to shoot my new Ruger GP 100 only but it gets a tad hot if i just keep firing load after load. Will I damage my gun if i don't let it cool down? I have been alternating using my 2' Rossi and my 4" Ruger and occasionally popping off 8 in my 22 revolver. Sorry for being dense, but I am rather new to this.

Running a revolver hot from rapid fire will not damage it in any way. The gun will cool down enough while reloading to prevent that, though it might well get hot enough to cause serious discomfort (as in "eeeoooowww!") if the shooter touches the hot barrel.

It should not harm anything, especially an all steel gun like the GP100.

Shoot away, and keep your fingers clear of the forcing cone after shooting hot magnums. ;)

You might overheat a machine gun shooting it, but not a revolver.

I used to worry about that too, and a shotgun in a dove field. :)

I have the old HKS loading blocks where ten times 6 rounds are ready in each box to be picked up by speedloaders. I have five of those boxes and plenty of speedloaders and when I was still competing, I went through two hundred rounds as fast as I, or a helper, could reset the falling plate machine. Reloading takes but a second or two.

The S&W got very hot but it did not get damaged.

the only heat related problem I had with a d/a revolver is when I use my speed loaders... my middle finger touches the forcing cone for a brief second or two....

It will not hurt the barrel, it's fine for the gun but when the barrel is hot the shots will be not as accurate until you let it cool down.

The question is not if the gun is being harmed by a lot of rapid firing,
But whether you're hitting anything.
Or is the goal to keep as many bullets in the air as possible at the same time, until the first one hits the target.
Like those old variety show guys trying to keep a bunch of spinning plates all going at once.
Maybe you've invented a new form of competition.

Saw your post just now. I get your point
The original question was asked because
my previous 4 " was a EAA Windicator
That heated up so quickly that
Almost always the shells got
Jammed and I had a bloody hard
Time getting the shells out.

It's a very well made Fighting Gun! Designed to do battle under rigorious conditions Especally hot during a gunfight!
Hot enough to burn your hands but keeps on and on...
Don't worry.
