Why is it that most people are afraid to ship to the uk.
Sorry this will go into policitica conversation.

Reason I am asking is it due to 911 issues regarding security... or is it because of the distance and people are afraid of being ripped off?

Most gun smiths I talk to say that 911 caused alot of tighter actions to be taken on security... (yet there are still no legal setbacks.)

The main reason for asking is that I asked a couple of people on this forum to sell me something... I think one was a scope.... and there was something else anyone could buy.... ie not a gun.

and no one wanted to sell...even at the full asking price.. and me paying the shipping.... Most products in america are much cheaper than here. hence me looking.

oh well I hope to get lucky soon.

Its not just the UK, its any foreign country. Export of arms and even non-firearms on the US Munitions List is strictly regulated under ITAR (International Traffic in Arms Regulations), and the Arms Export Control Act. Even non-firearm parts, accessories, software, components technology, etc. can be subject to the regulations. A scope could be a regulated item (and some undoubtedly are) but without knowing 100% one would be foolish to try and send something overseas without the proper paperwork.

I have consulted legal experts, and if you ask most companys they will justify and say that there are no export doc's required. A rifle scope (lets just use that) is easy. You mark on the box optics. or Rifle scope. If anyone was to get into trouble it would be the reciever. NOT the sender. but I am asking because I figured most are concerned about the laws etc. Which reallly only apply if your sending across say a firing pin... or a bolt or a barrel... that type of things are very very regulated and failure to obide by the rules etc will get the person at this end arrested.

(police are extremely hard when it comes to firearms in this country)

but for non working parts...ie scope, stock, mag clips, there is nothing to worry about... but start sending rifle parts like firing pins, or bolts, or barrels.. than you will have all the paperwork.

but thank you for your honest view.. I was wondering .. and was thrown back as to why no one was sending me anything..

The US Munitions List does not only list guns and weapons, it also lists parts, accessories, components, even scopes and protective gear (such as body armor and/or NBC gear). Almost anything with a military utility is listed. Rifle scopes manufactured to military specs, for instance, are included on the US Munitions List. Empty shell casings are included. Almost any type of firearm, magazine, or accessory, especially those of military utility, would be covered. Most people would be amazed at the amount of products that are actually covered by the USML.

Now if you were buying from a party in the US, you as the recipient would not be in trouble with the US authorities (US law does not apply to you in the UK), but you may be with the authorities in your own country, and most certainly the sender here in the US could be prosecuted under US law.

I had a look Shaggy. Being american myself!!!

And anything that could be used to convert back to a working gun is classed.. ie as you said used carts..... and Military issued equipment.. its difficult enough to send it to some states.. let alone abroad.

but normal rifle scopes. slings, rifle canvas's all are fine.. unless there to military spec...

you can buy bb guns.. etc.. so a normal rifle scope for instance.. which by the way is one of my main interests... is not on any list..

I will just go back home and send more across......but seeing that I only go once a year.. and with a child on the way... it might be every other year.... I wanted to try to organise some contacts for some simple items.. nothing serious... I can always send a copy of my firearms cert for any questions... ie put in the box.... with it and bingo.
