Shipping questions???

If I were to send an auto to a smith for some work, is it legal to send it through USPS with the slide assembly and frame in two separate packages? I was thinking of having some work done, and I will not pay for UPS air. If my separate packages idea is no good, I'll have my local FFL send it.

Thanks,

I just took my Kahr MK40 to Mail Boxes etc to ship back to Kahr for some service work. They called Fed-ex and Fed-ex said it was ok to ship the entire gun if I was shipping to the manufacturer of the gun. I hope everything goes allright, since it is Saturday it will not actually ship until Monday. The cost of shipping plus insurance was less than $30 using 2-day delivery with Fed-ex.

They called UPS, and UPS said I would have to bring the gun to them directly to ship, but from what I have heard. and I may have misunderstood, but UPS tacks on like a $60 fee for firearms. I could be wrong, I'll check the net and see if I can find the story I read about UPS.

I recently sent my Springfield off to the factory for completion of the manufacturing process...UPS charged $32.10 at their office for transportation from Va. to Il.

Springfield shipped the gun back to me (after 3 months) direct to my home, just like they used to do by UPS Red Label.

I notice that Jersey City Armory is shipping new guns to an FFL by USPS for $9.00. I understand this is FFL to FFL only.
