Shipping handgun to manufacturer question

I live in Texas and need to ship my gun to the manufacturer to get serviced. Do I need to go through a FFL dealer? If not, which carrier is prefered and won't cause any problems?
 
You can ship your firearm directly to the manufacturer or a gunsmith. They will also ship the firearm directly back to you. You cannot ship via USPS, so either UPS (Yuck!) or Fed-Ex the firearm to them. The shipper may require that you ship for next day delivery. Be sure to insure your firearm for more than it would cost to replace it.

Actually, you can ship via UPS, it just has to go next day air. But I always send FedEx. No need to involve an FFL.
