Shipping gun from CA to TX, person-to-person?

My father-in-law is sending me a gun. He is in CA and I am in TX. If I get a copy of the FFL to receive the firearm in TX, can he send it through UPS directly to my FFL, or does it have to go FFL to FFL? I know Texas regulations, but am not familiar with those in CA?

He can send it directly to your FFL, but the cost is the same as giving it to his FFL and having them ship it.
 
If he has a good local FFL who he has a good relationship with, his FFL can ship it Priority Mail. That will cost you about $10 to $15 wher UPS overnight will cost you $50
