Shipping container for shotgun.
I will be shipping a shotgun to a gunsmith for repair work. From central US to eastern US. I think I can do this via the USPS. I do not have an original shipping box for this and will need to buy / make something. I’m looking for recommendations that will 1) keep the gun reasonably safe. 2) satisfy the USPS regulations.
Your suggestions please.

Any long gun is mailable via USPS to/from any maker or repair gunsmith directly, w/o having to go through an FFL, per GCA-68.

The gun must, of course, be unloaded - and I further break the gun down to shorten the package to make it look less like a long gun case,

I remove both the barrel(s) and buttstock, wrap each section in bubble wrap, and pack them in a strong/new cardboard box filled with foam peanuts packed firmly all around the sections.

According to USPS, the seams only may be taped with clear plastic shipping tape , but not the entire package surface, as UPS/FEDEX allows.

My shipping idea just a jolt. I ordered a Combo gun from H&R. The local gunshop received it and called me to tell me it was damaged in transit. They are shipping it back and a new one is on the way.

I am now going to wait until I get the replacement new gun and reuse that box - with foam wrap around the metal pieces!!!
