Ship gun to self in Kalifornia from Colorado?

If I want to ship a handgun to myself in California for a vacation.....do I use the US mail, UPS, or Fed Ex? I would address it to myself at my friend's house right? Then I would sign for it upon arrival? What is best way? Can I buy ammmo in that state, or would my friend have to buy it with her local DL?
 
You can send it to yourself, care of your friend, via FedEx or UPS. They cannot open the package; you must do that yourself. You cannot Mail a handgun unless you are a dealer. Even though it is legal, you may not be able to convince a FedEx or UPS counter person of the fact. It would be easier to take the handgun with you if you are flying or driving. There should be no problem for you to buy ammunition as long as you are over 21.
 
Are you sure EOD? I thought ALL firearms had to be shipped to an FFL......

Either way, it'd be easier to pack it (call the airline for more information on their restrictions) and take it with you on the plane.
 
I've shipped to myself via fedex before. Just seal it up good, i.e. dont leave GPR on the box or you might have trouble.
