Have decided to rebarrel one of my 700s. Will still be using 308 Win but can't decide between a Shilen SS or an Accumax II. Anyone have more cons than pros against either. Have heard that Shilen SS is "soft"...can't figure that out. Price is comparable. Any ideas ? Thanks

I use Shilen for all my rebarrel projects. Accurate yes. Soft? not hardly. A good barrel on the winners equipment list at BR matches across the country, something Accumax can't claim.

Shilen/ v.s. / Accumax II

Knighterrant.....IF this is the MICHAEL I think it is......you'd do very well to heed this gentlemaens advice, I have shot his Shilen barreled rifle......and it's not EVEN funny...........tack driver city....yo!!!Arch is / was dat U????(D

Knight, checked his E mail...it is the one!!!!!!.....get the Shilen..........he won't steer you the wrong direction.

Well I had my Win,70 in .223 Rebarreld. I had a Lothar Walther S/S installed. It shoots 1/2in groups at 100yds at the bench. And I am NOT a bench rest shooter.Ck out Lothar Walther Web site? When it comes from Germany YOU know its GOOD!:)

Shilen or Hart, you can't go wrong. I use Shilen barrels and my shooting partner uses Hart. I rebarreled my 700 a couple of years ago with a 26 inch shelin barrel. The extra weight improved the balance for me. I had a 30-06 built with another 26 inch shelin barrel. Both of these guns will shoot under an inch and if I do my part under a half at 100yds. At the 1000yd club that I belong, Hart barrels out number shilen. I am a tree stand hunter and the extra barrel length and weight does not bother me. It gives me more velocity and balance. Good luck on the rebarrel job.

I have to second PD on the Lothar Walther SS barrel. I had one in .308 1 in 12" put on my rifle and my best three shot group with factory ammo was .192 inches at 100 yards. I just started playing with handloads and I shot a .4 inch 5 shot group but I know I can get it tighter. Also I was told by my smith, Jeff Hicks, that the Lothar Walthers are harder steel than most and will shoot accurate out to 15,000 rounds. Just something to think about but make sure you also get the reciever(trued) and bolt(squared and lapped) worked on at the same time to kill two birds with one stone.
