Shilen barrel?

I have a Ruger M77 Hawkeye in .308. I like this gun alot for the hunting that I do but I have always wanted to get a shilen barrel for it just to see what it would do for it. I was wondering if this is possable or has anyone else try'd this with there ruger? Thank you for your time.

Rugers get rebarreled just like any other make of rifle. A shilen barrel will help you bring out the potential of any rifle.

I'd recommend you take it to a quilified gunsmith,

Do a Google on Rebarreling/Chambering a rifle barrel, you'll find is not really something you should try on your own.

Find a good gunsmith, this is not a do it yourself job. There are more than a few gunsmiths out there with little experience or proper training.
Also, ask about other brands of barrels. The Shilens are a very good barrel, but there are better barrels to be had.
The one gunsmith I know and reccommend is Sccott @ www.savagegunsmithing.com.
It's his Savage rifle site, but he works on everthing.
You are going to pay good money for a new barrel and the installation of it, don't try to go too cheep, a good barrel properly installed with a good crown will make your rifle into a tac driver. You might also consider bedding the action also. The Ruger beds a little different than most bolt rifles.
I've done quite a few. I retired from gunsmithing about 5 years ago. I really miss it, but a pretty bad back put me down.

Best Regards, John K
