Shield vs HK P2000sk

How would you compare the two for "summer EDC"?

PS- I know about the $75 SW rebate so, may pick one up either way....

Thanks!

Hammer fired vs striker fired.
Single stack vs double.
Safety option vs no safety option.

IMO two very nice pistols but it is tough to beat the single stack Shield for comfort of carry due to how thin it is.

At prices that new Shield is going for it is almost a no brainer IMO. You could easily sell it for most likely no loss and maybe even a gain once rebate ends.

Almost identical in size except in width. I have the Shield in 9 and the p200sk in 40. The p2000sk also weighs more. My Shield has no manual safety and my HK is the L.E.M. v2

I would personally pick the HK and sacrifice some of the slimness for capacity and shootability. That's just me. The others above are correct, they're both good but different choices. I can never bring myself to say "you should go with X," only what I would pick and why, because carry guns are a really personal choice as we all have different sacrifices we are willing to make and different ideas about what features we want. But again, for me it would be the HK. I live in Phoenix so I'm no stranger to heat while carrying. I don't think it's too much, but you'll have to decide which you're more comfortable with on your own.

The Shield is new to me and I've had the HK for 10 years. I shoot the HK very well and as of yet the Shield isn't "Wowing" me like the HK did. One definite difference is that I like the HK controls more and I'd prefer a hammer. Either one will serve as quality, reliable protection. Currently the price on s Shield is hard to beat. If cost isn't a factor, then nobody builds a better gun than HK.

A more direct gun-to-gun comparison to the Shield I believe is the Walther PPS. Similar size, weight, capacity, cost and features. I did a comparison between these two and edged towards the Walther but it was close. Might be a familiarity thing, as in the HK Vs. Shield.

I wonder if the current Shield pricing is indicative of a 2.0 coming?

That could be but could also be that they just want to clear out excess inventory and firearm sales are down considerably since the election.

It largely depends on what you already have, IMO. Do you already have a single stack, but no easily concealable double stack? Get the HK. Perhaps you already have some double stacks, but no single; get the Shield. Have both categories covered already? Get the one that puts the bigger smile on your face :D

I would say that if you're considering the Shield, given the pricing options right now it might be worth picking one up anyway if the budget allows.

I looked hard at both models at one time and went with the HK; I couldn't rack the slide of the Shield to save my life so that alone determined which gun I was walking out with....

I really enjoy the P2000 full size, so my nod goes to HK's SK model. A good belt and holster and it'll carry just as easy as any single stack 9mm.

I'd probably agree, but at twice the cost currently shouldn't it be?

It's an apples to oranges comparison at best, I'd rather have my Walther PPS-M2 than a Shield but while the S&W rebate deal is in effect it's definitely a great gun for the money. And a full side P2000, preferably LNIB to save a few bucks, is definitely on my wish list!

Just returned from the range to have a comparison between the new Shield, my Walther PPS and a HK P2000sk. The major finding here is that the Shield held it's own among the similar two top tier pistols. The HK is a superlative firearm with no flaws. The PPS is as competent as one would need. The Shield is reliable and as accurate as needed. For the price, there can be no complaint with it's features, quality and usefulness, IMHO. Though perhaps not my first choice, it is none the less a good pick for carry.

Don't forget to check out CDNN. They've been having the V3 P2000 in 9mm for sale for $550 off and on for months now. It's pretty hard to beat that when it comes to price, even on the used market.

Well I did say off and on, but you're right they're not there now. They sold out before and got more stock in at one point, but whether that will happen again idk. Regardless they were available for an excellent price for some time.
