Shield 9mm vs HK P30 SKS 9mm

Well, I have to say...Having just received my new HK P 30SKS aside from the fact that the HK "seems" to have a much higher quality "look" and finish, after 100 rounds of Blazer Brass 115, it still catches about 5% of the ejects when cycling.
The Shield on the other hand has NEVER had a single misfire/FTE or any problem of any kind....BUT big BUT, the HK takes about half the effort to rack the slide, AND I seem to be more accurate with the Shield.
So hopefully the HK will "break in"....the Shield did not need a break in.

Most HKs should be run early on with a box or four of hotter or heavier rounds.

Run 3 or 4 boxes of NATO Spec 124 grain or some 147 grain stuff or some +P defensive stuff.

After you do this it should loosen up enough to run 115 grain stuff. Blazer is known as pretty weak 115 grain stuff.

Hope this helps. My P2000sk runs anything but I broke it in as above.

Also I am going to assume you cleaned and lubed it out of the box, if not do that making sure to brush the slide channels where the rails run and the ejector/breech face.

DAKA, did you clean and lube your new P30SK before shooting it? Typically they are not lubed well enough when they leave the factory who is more concerned about putting a preservative in place. The manual has instructions on lubing that includes the barrel exterior, the steel frame tabs that the slide rides on, the entire length of each slide rails where it rides on the frame steel tabs, and the recoils spring assembly.

Blazer Brass is decent ammo but it is on the lower powered side as is Federal Champion and UMC. See if you can get your hands on some American Eagle or Speer Lawman for next range trip. If you can't and are still having problems after a 200-300 rounds the problem should go away anyhow.

I used 115 grain 9MM first range trip with my P30L, VP9, and P30SK and not a single problem but I did clean and lube my pistols first and first couple boxes were Speer Lawman or American Eagle.

Oh and congrats on your new HK P30SK. It is one SWEET pistol!

I (for shame) did not clean or lube it, shot it fresh from the box.
I'll be treating it better tonight for tomorrows range visit and I do have some NATO 124 grain ..

For the record I have seen some of the Gen 4 Glocks with the new recoil spring have some issues with light / cheap / target fodder out of the box.

I think we as a shooting community both shoot a lot more then ever and we use a much wider array of ammo today and that's gotta be touch to design a gun around.

Think about the difference in recoil, slide velocity, and all the other physics between a 115 grain target round that likely has very little QC as far as powder charge goes but then we want to go out and shoot 147 grain +P or +p+ ammo just as reliably. That's a big physics change in such a compact place.

I think most gun companies these days seem to be erring on the side of over sprung with the mindset that a few cruise missile loads will break the gun in just enough to work with the cheap stuff while still being sprung enough for the holy hand grenade rounds.

You might also want to leave your HK slide locked back for a day or so.

I think you will be all set once you get some hot ammo down a clean gun. Blazer Brass isn't HORRIBLE ammo it just isn't hot.

Now Tula Assmax eerrr Brassmax I mean......that is horrible ammo. That stuff will jam if drop it down a 4 inch wide length of PVC pipe.
