Shield 9 - Winchester USA Forged

Anyone run this in a Shield 9mm - 115grain, 150 round box? If so, how did it go?

Also, my local range allows steel cased ammo, but not steel core. I take it that this ammo would be allowable under that rule?

I've experienced no problems whatsoever.

It should be.

I've read some reports and watched videos where hands would turn very black from this dirty ammo. And some reports of failures. I bought a box of 150 at Walmart for $22.97.

Ran all 150 rounds trouble free through my Shield. And my hands were maybe a little dirtier than brass cased. But not much, really not noticeable.

I'll clean the Shield this afternoon and see if it's any dirtier than normal. But, for the price, this looks like a good deal for range ammo.

Not in a Shield, but in multiple M&Ps (fullsize, compact and 9c) ive put about 1000 rounds of that ammo downrange. Zero issues.

This is the ammo i use in classes where i wont be able to retrieve my brass

Just finished cleaning and it wasn't bad. My feeling was that if my hands weren't that dirty, then the gun wouldn't be either. And it wasn't. I'll probably keep buying it as long as it's available.

Nothing inherently wrong with steel. The only issue I’ve found is some companies are selling steel for very close to what I can brass cased ammo online.

If steel cased were significantly cheaper, I'd probably buy it more. It seems to function fine in my pistols. For $1-$2 more per box I can get brass cased ammo that I can shoot anywhere and salvage the brass for reloading or scrap to fund more ammo or guns. I do make it a point to test it in each of my pistols for function.

A few things....
1) The ammo is not available in 124g and I range shoot the same grain as my defensive loads.
2) It's strange that I cannot find anyone selling 1000 round boxes.
The most is 750 which isn't the end of the world just weird.

On AmmoSeek.com "Cheaper than Dirt" is the least expensive at $118.89 for 750 rounds.
Also "Free Shipping" on orders over $50.00
AmmoSeek Website:
https://ammoseek.com/ammo/9mm-luger/Winchester-handgun-115grains-?nr=500-1000

Federal American Eagle 115g FMJ @ SGAmmo 750 rounds would be $142.50
But you pay shipping.

Blazer Brass 115g FMJ @ AmmoMen for 750 Rounds is $126.00
Pay shipping:
However you can wait to find these with no shipping so we'll summarize without shipping costs.

So in summary you would save $23.61 with Federal vs Winchester.
and Blazer Brass vs Winchester you save $7.05

If I shot 115g ammo for $7.05 savings I'd still rather use Blazer Brass than the steel Winchester.
Bottom line is that if I could use Brass for a minimum cost over steel I would probably choose that option.
Lastly, the fact that I shoot 124g, Winchester would not be on my radar

At $7.65 cents for 50 at walmart, I can’t see how it can get any cheaper. I shoot steel cased ammo all the time. It may be a little dirtier than brass cased ammo but so what. I clean my gun after each session anyway.

This load is more accurate than the foreign steel cased ammo I have shot as well. No function issues with either.

Sorry off topic, but "cheaper than dirt" is fightings words in these parts. I would happily pay an extra few dollars. Back to your regularly scheduled programming, just a friendly PSA (public service announcement, not palmetto state armory).

I almost exclusively shoot steel case because of the low cost.

I haven't noticed any real difference in accuracy. I only usually shoot out to 10 yards.

The Winchester steel case seems to be loaded hotter than the foreign steel case. Also if you feel the cases themselves, they feel rough in comparison to others. This may or may not increase the likelihood for malfunctions.

So far I haven't owned any firearms that won't shoot steel case. CZ-85B, P07, Kahr CM9, Taurus PT92C. All shapes and sizes.

Not a Shield (so why am I wasting your time???) but I've run this through at least 5 other guns and never had a problem, and Shields aren't known to be picky about ammo to my knowledge. Try it and see. It's stupid-cheap at Walmart, and now you won't have competition from 18-21 year olds who can't be trusted to buy ammunition when they get home from war zones.
