Shertz, Texas gunfight video

Have you seen this video? I did a search and it did not show up. It seems to me that it would be worth a look on this forum. I posted it also in a Crimson Trace thread since the officer involved was supposedly using a laser equipped pistol.
Patrol car video. Pretty scary footage. The P.O. did well.

Hard to see the LASER, but the LEO done good, getting off a full mag while under heavy fire and scoring 3 hits. Too bad he didn't off the perp.

"The P.O. did well."

Indeed. It is a very good day when you bring a pistol to a rifle fight and win.

OT: Are the doors of police vehicles typically armored in any way?

but the LEO done good, getting off a full mag while under heavy fire and scoring 3 hits

That's pretty impressive + the fact that he held his ground rather than running and potentially drawing fire towards civilians.

Scary to think of and glad the b/g is in jail.I also will also add my comments to the other posts.Who in their right mind would call and any traffic stop routine, the only routine things cops do is walk out their front doors after that it could all go from sugar to s@#$ in 2.5 seconds.Sorry for the rant but i do hate that comment.

I think they only mean that they chase, hit their lights, and the suspect pulls over like he should. They then expect normal behavior, otherwise the suspect would run. That's why it seems to be a routine traffic stop.

I don't blame cops for expecting normal behavior when all indications are in the green, as long as they don't let their guard down completely. This guy did better than OK.

Holy crapola.

Whoever trained that cop should be extremely proud. Not many opportunities for monday morning quarterbacking with this incident.

To be utterly clear: any further posting of off topic posts in this thread will result in a ban. This isn't L&P, and won't become so.

I thought it was interesting how the officer commented that the training he'd received told him not to get back inside the vehicle. Pretty sure that would be difficult to avoid doing under the circumstances, since it would "feel like" cover and since that's where the bigger radio is located. You'd have to pretty much force yourself not to do it, against instincts telling you otherwise.

Instead, he took shelter behind the vehicle, returning fire as he went.

The wisdom of that approach, and the reason for that training not to get back in the vehicle, was shown in a brief camera shot near the end of the video. Note how there is a tight cluster of rifle holes in the windshield which are absolutely centered upon the driver's seat. If he'd sheltered there, he'd be dead.

Used his sights!

To hit him 3 times meant he used his sights, or the laser, not sure if the laser would show well in all that light show? Hope he bought a Lottery Ticket the next day, before his luck changed!

He was smart to fire one handed while retreating to cover.

I have to say that I am very impressed with the Schertz PD. When I took my CCW class, one of the members of the Scherts PD was there as an assistant instructor. I have seen this video and am always impressed with the good training this LEO brought to the fight. The Schertz PD now has several of their officers qualified and liscensed to carry full auto Glocks with Crimson Trace laser grips.

The location of the holes in the vehicle seems to show that the BG didn't know exactly where the officer was either.
