Shell case in my pocket, or why you have to be careful when you live near DC

I was at the range saturday in Springfield VA. Unbeknownst to me, two cartridges ejected from my Sig P226 landed in my shirt pocket. As I read the DC law, the definition of ammunition includes shell casings, and ammo is verboten in the district.

I generally stay out of the district as a rule (too many reasons to enumerate), but I had out of town guests so I very well could have gone in for dinner or something. Next time I'll make sure to frisk myself before leaving the range.

It's amazing that anyone, anywhere, with any level of consciousness, could support D.C.'s laws when those laws make it criminal to have something as inert and harmless as a cartridge casing in one's possession.

I mean, how could one defend that being on the books??

Its pretty ridiculous, but I'm sure it makes the feelers feel good. I live one stop light from the district, so I always try to be extra careful because one wrong turn plus some bad luck plus some bad planning could be a real problem.
