A lady named Becky there, who doesn't like guns, is looking for info on safe gun handling.
While there have been some good answers, here's a chance to perhaps defuse a potential anti. Maybe some of you folks in ER could help her out.
Here's her statement:
"I was in a rather unenviable situation two days ago. This guy was brought to the ER, shot dead (really dead.) The techs are getting the body ready to go to the morgue and call me over. There is a gun in his pants. Now, usually, the police are at the ER faster than flies to poop when there is a fatal/near-fatal shooting. This time, they weren't (they arrived 15 minutes later.) So for 15 minutes I am the unhappy guardian of a gun in a specimen bag.
Here's my problem: being a good pacifist-type I know *NOTHING* about guns. So, what I want is information about how they work, how to take the bullets out, how to make sure the safety is on, etc. I look in the bookstore and on the internet and all I find are NRA/Guns-n-Ammo/Sportsman type information sources.
What I really want is a short treatise on guns for people who really *really* don't like guns. Does such a thing exist, and where would I find it?
Becky"
