Sharp trigger edge fix

On my S&W M66 the edge of the trigger has some small burrs on it that always make my finger raw after firing only 25-30 rounds. I am thinking about polishing it down to remove the burrs. I don't think it will affect the mechanics of the trigger at all. What would you suggest for polishing the burrs off? This trigger has ridges going down its length but its not those that cause the abrasion on my finger its the burrs.

I would probably use a little 600 grit paper and rub along the edge of the trigger. It can't take much effort to fix the problem.

For small burrs/sharp ridges, wrap a piece of sandpaper around a dowel and polish them off. Larger burrs or a deeper edge might require a few minutes with a small round file before moving to the sandpaper.

A dremel tool will work as well BUT, go slow and it is best to remove the trigger from the gun before starting to minimize the chance of slipping and marring the gun. Remember those things take of material fast. It is always easier to take metal off than to put it back on.

Yes taking off just a little is the key so I won't use a dremel tool on it. I am thinking about using the finest grit emory cloth so that I can simply smooth it down a little.

To do a proper de- burr job you really need to remove the trigger. Use sandpaper (400 to 600 grit) wrapped around a 1/4" dowel. You can do it very quickly with a Dremel and a Cratex bit but do it far away from the gun. The bit will throw abrasive dust everywhere. Be aware that most S&W triggers are finished with a thin layer of hard chrome. If you remove any of that plating (and you will) you will need to keep the trigger oiled or waxed or it will rust.
