Shape of Remington SPS varmint barrel near the muzzle?

Hello, I am looking at the possibility of using an SPS varmint or tactical as a platform to build a match rifle.

I need to know about the barrel...is it a perfect cylinder at the last couple inches of the muzzle end (bull barrel cylinder) or is it tapered? The reason I ask is that front sights (irons) clamp on, but they only clamp on well to a cylinder, not a tapered barrel.

Please say whether you have the tactical or varmint in your response. Thanks

I have an SPS varmint in 308. The barrel does have a very slight taper from the reciver to the crown. I've never used clamp on sights, so I cant tell you if they'll work well on the rifle or not.
