US Rep. Ney Pledges To Tackle Restrictions Next Year

Gun Owners of America is pleased to report that Rep. Bob Ney (R) of
the 18th district in Ohio has submitted his GOA Candidate Survey
100% in favor of gun rights.

Rep. Ney, who is the only federal legislator from Ohio with an "A"
rating, has promised to introduce several bills repealing draconian
restrictions upon our 2nd Amendment rights. In his survey, Rep. Ney
has pledged to introduce the following pro-gun bills next year:

* A bill to repeal the 1993 Brady registration act;

* A bill to repeal the 1994 Clinton-Feinstein ban on common
household firearms; and

* A bill to repeal the 1996 Lautenberg misdemeanor gun ban, which
disarms citizens for life for "offenses" as slight as spanking a
child or grabbing a spouse's wrist.

ACTION: It is important that you thank Rep. Ney for his commitment
to the 2nd Amendment. Too often, the only input Congressmen get
when protecting our gun rights is the constant insults that the
media dishes out. So please contact Rep. Bob Ney and thank him for
his promise to introduce the above-mentioned legislation that will
repeal current gun control laws on the books. Contact him at:

House Leadership Candidate Finally Answers Critical Gun Rights
Survey; Speaker-to-be Larry Householder (R-78) Answers Pro-gun

After reneging on a promised newsletter interview and claiming he
doesn't answer surveys, GOA received Rep. Householder's survey.
Ohio's gun owners have a right to know where the next Speaker stands
on their gun rights. The survey will be useful in reminding the
next speaker of the stand he has taken for your gun rights in this
election.

Ohio Treasurer Joe Deters Attacks Self-defense; Pushes Taft's
Gun Control

Deters pushed Governor Taft's Lock Up Your Safety agenda designed to
coerce you to keep your firearms less accessible in your home for
self-defense. Deters mailed a vicious attack piece against 100%
pro-gun state House candidate Tom Brinkman (R-37) during the 2000
primary. Deters favored an anti-gun liberal and used Republican
money and his power as the Hamilton County Republican chairman to
attack your rights and safety. Deters wears two hats -- Ohio State
Treasurer and Hamilton County Republican Chairman -- and has higher
statewide ambitions, perhaps Attorney General.

Gun Owners across Ohio mobilized to stop Taft's Burglar Protection
Act (HB 526) sponsored by Rep. Womer Benjamin (R-75), which was
designed to Lock Up Your Safety.

Now, recent news reports show the danger of Joe Deters' support for
so-called "safe storage" laws and gunlocks. In California, where
they force you to lock your guns, the pitchfork murderer cut phone
lines, invaded a home and stabbed two young siblings to death
because their older sister couldn't unlock the gun her parents had
trained her to use.

Action Item: Insist that Joe Deters renounce his anti-gun and
anti-self defense agenda. Demand he apologize to you and especially
Tom Brinkman, who is standing up for your rights and safety.

Treasurer Joe Deters: Call 614-466-2160 or FAX 466-644-7313

Governor Taft's Aide Admits Broken Promise On Concealed Carry

In an interview (9/11/2000), Mary Anne Sharkey, Communications
Director for Gov. Taft, tells GOA that yes, "very early in the
campaign" (when he was running for Governor) Taft did say --
without qualifications -- that he would sign a concealed carry
bill. But, later in the campaign, he "amended" what he had said,
saying he would sign concealed carry legislation only if OK'd by
law enforcement folks such as Ohio's Fraternal Order Of Police and
an unnamed organization of police chiefs.

Next year gun owners can expect a fight over right to carry. Many
feel betrayed by Governr Taft whom they supported in 1998. Now
others expect Governor Taft to use his power to pressure the House
and Senate leadership to bury right to carry in committee, and
avoid a vote on the floor.

Call Senate President Dick Finan (R-7) at 513-563-6161 and House
Speaker-to-be Larry Householder (R-78). Insist they don't let
right to carry get buried in committee.

Secretary Of State Blackwell Backs Concealed Carry; Opposes Locks
That Kill

The only statewide elected official really supporting concealed
carry is Secretary of State Ken Blackwell. In 1998 Blackwell
publicly backed your right to carry a firearm for self-defense
(source: 1998 GOA candidate survey). He also opposed Lock Up Your
Safety and Burglar Protection proposals. Call and thank him for
wanting to make you and your loved ones safer.

We need more states to tell the Feds to take their laws and shove them.

This is the thing that has frosted my hindquarters for a long time. The b@$t@rd made a campaign promise and then reneged on it. Many contributors to his campaign have been successful in getting their contributions refunded because of this.

We have a new Speaker of the House coming in and a new chance to get Ohio CCW passed next year. I want this bill passed in the Ohio Legislature to *make* Taft veto it, if he has the guts. Believe me, Ohio gun owners and CCW supporters will make their voices heard and put pressure on him to sign the bill into law. His own promise will come back to haunt him.

I keep asking myself how many politicians would push for all these useless and uncontitutional laws, if their security detail were removed.

Imagine, that no politician was accorded any protection, then I wonder what they would do.
Would they still push for locks and licenses and waiting periods.
