Setup GI sling

Got my slings in the mail today. Wondering, tabs up or down, how big should rear cuff be, how much should i loosen or tighten the front adjustment as opposed to the rear?

The pictures show setting it up on a Garand, but the pictures on the Turner site aren't that much different for setting it up on an AR-15.

They are the same. I use the same set up on my Garand, M1A, AR's, 1917 Enfield and even my hunting rifles.

Standard GI cotton web sling, guess i used the wrong terms....found a video though and got it setup. Looking to do appleseed next month so got my .22 ready and added one to my hunting carbine.

I do too basically, except I was taught to double up on the keepers (one above the other together) so one would act as a "lock".

We also tightened them up by cutting the threads, sliding them one or two holes closer together, and then restitching them using dental floss. That way, they hold tight under use.

The last half of the article I linked to (above) describes the GI web sling, including how to set it up and adjust it.

I cant wait to try this shooting. Although in all honesty hunting id probably only be able to make a hasty sling.

If youre looking for a hunting sling, a Ching sling is a better choice. It offers very similar stability, that is basically instantly attainable, simply by thrusting your arm through the sling, with no other adjustments or fiddling..

BTW, ive heard the ching sling is very useful as a shooing aid, but how does it carry? and who makes them, just galco or is there other good choices.

It carrys like a normal hunting sling. I have one made by Galco, and I made the rest of mine by using the Galco as a pattern. The Galco is a little pricey, but well made.

If you go with the traditional Ching set up, you need a third swivel point forward of the trigger guard for the short loop. They now make a Ching II that doesnt have the extra loop, but I havent tried one yet to comment on it.

Andy Langlois makes them. Hes on a couple of the boards, not sure if here though.
