Serious 1911 question...

If someone made a 6" barrel with a centering tit or dent, why wouldn't a REMOVEABLE front sight be a good thing?
Seems it would eliminate a major problem of getting a proper bushing fit.
The sight would return to its proper place on the BARREL and then the only variable would be the rear lockup.
Seems too simple. What am I missing?

I don't see how a front sight on an extended barrel would fix the need to fit the bushing properly. If your bushing fit is horrible, accuracy will suffer because the gun is throwing lead all over the place, not because the barrel isn't aligned with the sights.

Anyway, it was probalby just easier (and makes the gun look less like an aardvark) to make longer slides for longer barrels.

Bull Barrel centers the slide nicely. Unfortunately, anything can and will be out of kilter without fitting. If it's made to exact dimensions, it won't function. If it's made to loose dimensions, it won't be real accurate. If you are talking about making a new design, have at it. If you can beat what's out there, I'll buy one ;)
