Is there a definitive listing of the serial number used by the various manufacturers or applied for the various importers?

I am working on a Remington that has been defarbed. The only marks with remain are a faint portion of the Italian star proof mark on the right side of the receiver and a serial number: 052513. It would be helpful to know how manufacturers marked serial numbers on their revolvers as a way to at least identify the company or origin and perhaps the time of manufacture.

As an example, this revolver has a serial number with six digits and a leading zero.

A Pietta G&G with a date code of CC has a six digit serial begining with 5.

An ASM 1858 from AM is numbered in five digits starting with an 8.

A similar ASM 1858 from AT has five digits but there is a "B" in front of the serial. (It is a brass frame revolver so now I have to check on the translation of the english word "brass" into Italian.)

Is there a more or less complete list of serial numbers available?
 
Well

"Brass" translates to "ottone".

So if the "B" means brass it may have been applied after the revolver came to the us or the importer may have specified the serial number start with a B for brass revolvers.

OR

The "B" has no connection whatever with the fact that the frame is brass.

Anyway....I degress.

I wonder if BPREVOLVER might have some info on serial numbers.
 
You're out of luck. I defarbed my old Rigarmi. Kinda wish I hadn't now. Nobody would have a clue who made it.

The Blue of the Blue Book of Modern BP arms has a serial number listing for Piettas from 1984 through 1999. There is also a listing for 2nd Generation Colt BP revolvers. Other than that, I do not know of any such listing or table.
 
Regarding Uberti 1860 Armies the early ones had an "A" prefix.
Regarding the Belgian Centaures there are some 500 serial numbers listed now covering the whole production 1959 through 1973 over at www.1960nma.org, check top navigation under "Survey".

Good post.

I had check out that FAUL serial number base some years ago when I bought mine. I admire the way that site is being maintained. It really is a good resource.

I mused about the "B" on that ASM brass frame revolver. This prompted me to look at all of the serial numbers on my revolvers. A lot of manufacturers appear to have used leading letters.
 
Just to confirm that the "B" doesn't have anything to do with brass frame: my ASM 1860 has a "B" before the serial number and it is a steel frame.
