Serial # help on S&W 25-2

I just closed a deal on a S&W 25-2, .45 ACP, 6.5" pinned barrel, SN N614xxx, and was wondering exactly when it was produced. It's all original, target grips/hammer/trigger, all black target sights, pinned front sight.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hilton, the serial number you've provided would indicated your Smith & Wesson Model 25 wae made in 1980. In that year the Model 25-5 was being produced. To be a Model 25-2 it would need a serial number that falls in the range of S207000-S333454 or N1-N430000. You might want to check the serial number again to verify exactly which variation of the Model 25 you have and its year of manufature. Hope this helps!

I think there was considerable overlap of 25-2 and 25-5 production. Fjestad indicates 25-2 discontinued approx 1985.

I can't nail it down but can sho raise a question.

Steve,

The serial number is entirely consistent with a 25-2 production gun.

The 25-2, according to my sources, was in production concurrently with the 25-3, 4, and 5, and possibly even the -6 and the -7.

The 25-2 was the standard .45 ACP, while the 25-3 was stamped on 2 specific guns -- a .45 3" made for Lew Horton and a .45 Colt Anniversary edition.

The 25-4 was also .45 Colt, but was the Colt Delux Anniversary version.

The 25-5 was the .45 Colt standard production variant.

The 25-2 didn't go out of production until around 1988, or possibly even later.
