Sentry Safe Won't Completely Open

I have a Sentry Safe that my dad gave to me. I do not know the model # or anything like that. It is an upright 3-digit combination with a handle below the dial to open it.

Anyway, last night I was opening it and the rods on the top and side opened, but the bottom rods are still closed. I tried prying at the bottom a little and now the dial will not turn at all except for 2 notches to either side of the last #.

I really don't want to have to pay for a locksmith to come out, but I am going to need to get in the safe.

Any suggestions?

Yeah, I would have tried closing it and re-locking it several times to see if it was a random malfunction before taking a crow bar to it. That's a sure way to need professional intervention.

Sentry likes to make their safes disposable by not making replacement parts available. You can hire a locksmith or safe tech, but the chances are good that you will end up paying them more than the safe cost.

I like to consider these situations a good learning experience. Go ahead and take a pry bar and break into the safe. This will give you first hand knowledge of how secure, or unsecure, the safe is. May give you something to think about when you purchase a replacement.
