Sentiments on Kel-tec SUB-2000

I mean is $350 better spent on a sar-1? I already have an AK. More fun than practicality? Possible plinking gun-or get a .22 for $100-150 less. It shots 9mm out of glock mags. Does anybody own this and have an opinion?

Thanks

Exile,

Yes, I own one of these...called a sub-9 when I purchased it. I like it! Mine is 9mm using SW magazines. It is a great plinker and as accurate as a 9mm can be out to 100 yards.

What I like best? It is very compact and cool looking. Gets lots of stares.

What I like least? Cleaning the rifle. I don't like to brag, but I have big, thick fingers which are not conducive to the nooks and crannies that must be cleaned with this gun. Also, if the instructions say to be careful with a spring assembly BE VERY CAREFUL! Twice I have shot tiny little springs across the room only to have to crawl on the floor for what seemed like hours to find. :(

Kel Tec also sells a bunch of accessories for the gun that make it even cooler looking.

Good luck with your decision.

Not to take anything away from Buddy Lee's helpful observations, but according to KelTec the Sub-2000 is a completely new design from the Sub-9. Anyone have a new Sub-2000?

I also have the "old" Sub-9 and like it a lot. The new version looks very much like the old with the exception of the new polymer receiver and different safety and new cheaper price. Too early to tell yet if the high quality of the old Sub has been maintained with the new Sub.

Well, you learn something new everyday. I didn't know that the gun had changed. I also thought that the price Exile mentioned was low compared to what I paid several years ago. I just thought the higher price I paid was a result of living in California. Now I know differently.

My gun is very well made, very solid feel to it. I have no idea about this new gun, espcecially since it is a new model.

My experiences with my Sub9 have also been very positive. It has been a very fun little carbine for me to own and shoot.

The Sub 2000 is still too new for a real thourough background on it yet, but for the most part it is very close to the original Sub9 except for the polymer reciever.

Considering Kel-Tec's excelent reputation for "making it right" quickly and efficiently, I'd take a chance on one if I didn't allready own my Sub9.

I just saw a Sub-2000 (at least, it was labeled Sub-2000) in a gun shop with Ronin308 today, priced at $420. It does have a very solid feel to it - it left me with a very good impression. Unfortunately, I've never fired one.

One thing in particular I noticed was that the sight alignment worked very well, despite the tube stock. A lot of guns like the Sub that I've seen (like Calicos) have crummy/uncomfortable sights to use.

The gun also has a little gimmick that locks it in folded configuration, so that it won't unfold on its own (like in a bunpy truck ride). And to boot, there's a keylock on that gimmick, so you can securely lock it open. Of course, you'd probably still be required to use a trigger lock on it... :barf:

Oh, and this one used Glock mags. The shop had a 32-rounder in it. Makes the mag almost as long as the barrel.

It's good to hear they're finally in the distribution channel. I've had a standing order for one for months at a local gunshop. Why? Just because it seems like a cool idea, and I'm sure the idea of a folding gun gives the "gun grabbers" fits! :)
