I'm sure that many of you remember the recent speech given on the floor of the United States Senate by Sen. Larry Craig. His speech could be entitled, "The Second Amendment", it was given on June 6, 2000 (and was reposted here IIRC.)

A passage in his speech reads,

"... Every 13 seconds in America someone uses a gun to stop a crime. ..."

"So let's play it out, right here on the floor of the Senate. Send me those stories from your local newspapers about that law-abiding citizen who used his constitutional right of self-defense. Send that story to me:

Senator Larry Craig
Washington, DC 20510

Or send it to your own Senator. Let Him or Her know the rest of the story of America's constitutional rights.
"

I have to admit i hadn't read closely his speech the first time, and i haven't sent him any clippings (or printed out copies of online news articles) but I intend to, from this day forward, and I'll be sending a copy each to my Honorable Senators Kennedy and Kerry, in addition to a copy for Sen. Craig.

Included in each package will be a copy of Sen. Craig's speech, and a copy of the Bill of Rights; to add context to the information.

No more teabags for me. No more cartridge casings, either.

Newspaper clippings. And Lots of 'Em!!!

"[Even if there would be] few tears shed if and when the Second Amendment is held to guarantee nothing more than the state National Guard, this would simply show that the Founders were right when they feared that some future generation might wish to abandon liberties that they considered essential, and so sought to protect those liberties in a Bill of Rights. We may tolerate the abridgement of property rights and the elimination of a right to bear arms; but we should not pretend that these are not reductions of rights." -- Justice Scalia 1998
