Sending a handgun

How does one legally ship a handgun to an FFL? A friend was going to ship a handgun to an FFL, and was told it is illegal to mail it. The local FFL wanted $90 handling and UPS wanted $80 to ship it. That's $170 one way. How do you ship to a gunsmith or to the factory for warranty service if it costs $360?

Unless you have a local (state) law you can send it to an FFL or manufacturer using UPS or Fedex.
Long guns can go USPS, and FFLs are allowed to send handguns USPS.
Sounds like he does not really want your business.
Even next day should not go much over $50.

As above....

You can ship yourself via UPS (don't use the storefront shop, got to go to the actual ups shipping place) or fedex... but the FFL on the other end has to accept a shipment from private individuals... make sure first.

Or you can find a local FFL who will do it for a reasonable price.... they can use USPS... so it will only cost them 10 or 12 bucks to ship.

The local FFL is trying to rob you blind if that's just their handling fee. Are you sure that price doesn't include shipping? If so, it's not too bad.

Depending on how far you are shipping the handgun, the UPS charge is about right since they require next day air service to ship handguns.

I shipped a handgun via UPS to the factory for warantee service. It cost me about $50 total for shipping to the factory. You don't have to use an FFL to ship to a gunsmith or the factory. Most manufacturers will pick up the return shipping costs. (At least Taurus did for me.)
