Senator Nugent

Senator Nugent - that has a nice ring to it, and Senator Nugent, NRA Board Member sounds even better...

I wish that Ted would run for the Senate in Michigan. I'd like to see that anti-gun extremist, Levin, removed from office. Ted is honest and tells it like it is.

Ted would hold his own in the senate against Kennedy, Feinstein, Schmumer, and all of the elitist, anti-rights politicians...

Actually, the Nuge would make a great Senator; After the way he turned on his pal John Coon the instant the NRA asked him to, who could doubt that he'd vote exactly the way the NRA dictated?

Always wondered whether that Board membership was his quid pro-quo for that betrayal.

Straightshot: What, you're from Michigan, and you don't remember the Jon Coon Libertarian campaign for Senate in '94? Here's a hint: Hunter's orange campaign signs everywhere. The Nuge was one of Jon's biggest supporters... Until the NRA asked him to star in an advertisement urging gun owners not to vote for Jon Coon! An advertisement funded, I might add, by PVF money contributed by JON COON SUPPORTERS! Jon wound up spending the last of his campaign funds on a commercial urging NRA members NOT to tear up their membership cards; Who do you think his campaign workers were? Do you know, we nearly knocked off David Bonior that year? The money the NRA spent attacking a pro-gun candidate might have pushed that race over the edge...

Oh, yes, Abraham won by such a huge margin that running those ads attacking Coon had nothing to do with his victory. It was, however, just barely enough to deny the Libertarian party permanent ballot status in Michigan.

Yes, I'm from Michigan. I don't remember Ted starring in a commercial, but your memory is probably good.

I've heard Ted on the radio when he had his program. He comes over as honest and doesn't pull any punches. I'm sure that he had a good reason for what he did. Perhaps it was because the reality is if you split votes, the antigun candidate wins. Numbers add up. It's nice to wish that a certain candidate can pull through, but then reality sets in.

Currently, we need to make sure that Stabenow doesn't get elected. As for Bonior, it's sad. I got a letter in response to one that I recently sent him. In it, he stated that he was for the gun owners, etc., but that certain things 'needed to be done' to ensure that 'criminals and kids' don't get guns.

Yeah, right. Bonior-speak. He must think that I'm stupid and can't look up his anti-Rights voting record.

Straightshot: The reality is that, at the time they ran those commercials, Carr was SO FAR behind in the polls that the only question was whether he'd run 2nd or 3rd. Seriously, he got like 25% of the vote in my county. (I put up one heck of a lot of those signs. ;)) No, the only real effect that commercial had, besides outraging a lot of NRA members who supported Coon and had their own donations turned against them, was to deny the Libertarian party permanent ballot status in Michigan. Which I kind of suspect was the purpose; The NRA leadership doesn't want a pro-gun third party out there draining votes away from the sorta, kinda, sometimes pro-gun Republicans.

Anyway, I'm not saying that the Nuge would make a bad Senator. He'd be better than Abraham, that's for sure, and worlds better than Lenin. (Ooops, that's Levin!) I'm just saying that he's no Dick Cheney, to vote against a gun control measure the NRA supports. Electing him to the Senate would be like giving LaPierre a seat.
