Senator Howard Metzenbaum's New Gun Ban Bill

Hey guy's, I just read about a disturbing new bill introduced in the U.S Senate. Seems that Howard Metzenbaum from the great republic of New Jersey has introduced the " Recreational Firearms Use Protection Act". This cleverly named bill has the real intent of banning handguns, shotguns, and semi-auto rifles. It would prohibit the sale, transfer, or possesion. I became aware of this through a flyer and petition I recieved from the " Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms". They're goal is to send 1 million petitions to Bill Frist, to try and get this bill killed if it ever reaches the Senate floor. I was alarmed at reading about this legislation, so I signed the petition denouncing the legislation and sent in a $20 check. I feel that we all need to be involved in the NRA and other grass-roots organizations if we are to maintain our gun rights. People like Metzenbaum, Schumer, Feinstein, Clinton, Kerry, and Kennedy are the ones we really need to be worried about. They're true goal is an outright gun ban, under sneaky and clever names.
As far as I am concerned, they can enact all the gun bans they want in New Jersey, or Commifornia, but leave the rest of us out of it, let us make our own decisions, and live our lives the way we please. People like Metzenbaum do NOT speak for the vast majority of the country, yet they know what is best for everyone. Bottom line, it really PISSES ME OFF!:D :D

I may be wrong, but to my recollection Metzenbaum introduces at least one of these every session in an effort to garner support as a Champion for those who choose to be Food in the great State of New Jersey.

None ever gets out of Committee.

Howies from Connecticut. If he was from NJ, he wouldnt have been in the Senate for all these years, he would have gone the way of other NJ politicians by way of indictment :)

As RL said, he's been introducing these bills for as long as I can recall. Used to be a great funraiser for the NRA, now folks just ignore him, averting their eyes as they would towards a drooling idiot on a corner

I can't believe the amount of misinformation in this young thread.

Howard Morton Metzenbaum was born in Cleveland, Cuyahoga County, Ohio, June 4, 1917 He is best known as a senator from Ohio from December 29, 1976, to January 3, 1995. He hasn't introduced anything in the senate for more than ten years, and certainly not as a senator from New Jersey. Metzenbaum is currently a resident of Florida. Rich is correct that this usually gets introduced as a bill in every session of congress. The names and sponsors change, but the basic anti-freedom language remains the same. The most recent bill of this particular name was in the 103rd session of congress. It was assign the number H.R.4296 and was introduced by Chales Schumer on 4/25/1994. A copy of this legislation (which died in committee a decade ago) may be found here: http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/C?c103:./temp/~c103ZhwEnd

If anyone would like to support or fight current legislation, please check out this link: http://capwiz.com/gunowners/issues/

Oh... and WA - I'd *love* to see your source on Metzenbaum being a fundraiser for the NRA.

His greatest accomplishment was the '94 AW ban, which he helped push from about 1988 until Clinton got elected. Like the AW ban he helped create, he is history.

Guess I should have been clearer...his silliness was a great fundraiser for the NRA...BILL TO BAN GUNS INTRODUCED, SEND US $20...:D

It works:

I was alarmed at reading about this legislation, so I signed the petition denouncing the legislation and sent in a $20 check.

Sorry, WA. I didn't see the connection before.

I suppose you are correct. All of the anti-freedom senators like Schumer, Feinstein, Clinton, Kennedy, etc. help to raise awareness and money for their opponents.

:)

Problem is (as in all things)of course the cries of Wolf Wolf Wolf can detract from the need to comptemplate serious issues.

Then again, on the other hand, no one thought the Bolsheviks were anything to worry about until they showed up in an armored train

Metzenbaum has, as previously stated, has been off the stage for some time now. Lautenberg from NJ appears to be cut from the same mold. We need to keep our info accurate and up to date or the antis will eat us alive!

Meaning no disrespect to anyone, . . . but I got burned a couple of times, passing on legitimate looking emails, . . . only to find out later that it was a sham or a hoax.

I make a habit now of just about always running those things that look too good to be true, . . . or too bad to be true, . . . through Snopes or one of the other "Fish Tale" checkers. This one would probably have been caught too, simply on old Maxi-bomb's name.

Believe me, . . . Ohio let out a red state collective sigh of relief when Maxi-bomb and Glenn were no longer our senators.

May God bless,
Dwight

Why do gun bans so often come from people named "Metzenbaumsteinlersky"? Why is it that Jews have NOT LEARNED THE LESSONS OF HISTORY -- THAT BEING DISARMED = GRAVE RISK OF DEATH BY GOVERNMENT, EVENTUALLY?!

It's maddening. Half my family is Jewish -- they are the half that has consistently had zero interest in owning guns, and who votes for those who push gun bans. Angers me, freaks me out, confounds me. How on earth do my sister and her husband expect to be able to protect their two daughters? Why did my grandmother, whose husband had been an army colonel in WWII, and whose mother was a Russian Jew immigrant, hate the idea of civilian gun ownership?

Those most victimized in the past by forced disarmament are those who most commonly argue in favor of it.

To me, it seems SICK, like the way some Jews tried to curry favor with Nazi guards by selling out their own kind... hoping for good treatment for themselves...

I just don't freakin' get it.

If it's true that this was the name given to a gun ban, then the man deserves to be hanged publicly with his genitals torn off and tied around his neck with a string. This is infuriating. The utter MENDACITY with which our elected officials operate is truly staggering.

Why is it that Jews have NOT LEARNED THE LESSONS OF HISTORY
Trick question. They have learned, and IMHO, their culture reflects this.

When was the last time you heard of a Jew committing a "Hate Crime" or becoming a Serial Killer or rapist? When was the last time you heard of a war between Sephardic and Hasidic Jews? Never, I think, because they have a greater cultural attachment to the concept of "community" than most others. As a result, the thought of needing guns to protect yourself from your neighbors (vs invaders) is something foreign to many in the Jewish culture. We might argue the point as "naive", but one must give the Values high marks.

Their strong belief in Community is also the reason so many Jews are Social Liberals. They truly believe in helping those who are down and out....again, we might argue that they fail to understand that the Welfare State has created people who will always CHOOSE to be "down and out" but, again, you can't fault the underlying values.
