There is a ongoing discussion at jeepsunlimited about SB-2099

Excerpt:
Senate Bill SB-2099 will require us to put on our 2000 1040 federal tax
form
all guns that you have or own. It may require fingerprints and a tax of
$50
per gun. This bill was introduced on Feb. 24. This bill will become
public
knowledge 30 days after it is voted into law. This is an amendment to
the
Internal Revenue Act of 1986. This means that the Finance Committee can
pass
this without the Senate voting on it at all.

The original discussion is at http://jeepsunlimited.com/ubb/Forum16/HTML/000552.html

Just incase it is not known here

Oh yes, it's known, and I must once again ask: Which part of the bill says anything about reporting guns on federal income tax returns?

I read the bill in question, and could find no mention of federal income tax forms.

And if the "bill" will become public knowledge 30 days after it's enacted, how is it that we are discussing it before it's enaction?

Disclaimer:
I am not by far knowledgable on this except a tax payer. And 1:00 am is not really the time to read government documents.

But my reading of the text shows due to taxation of gun transfer and registration of handgun automaticaly imply more information has to be provided as per the law. Someone else can provide more legal information.

Your post (and the many other posts on numerous boards about this bill) specifically state that the bill will "require us to put on our 2000 1040 federal tax form" information about guns.

Now, the bill in question is pretty short, not much to digest.

I'm just trying to figure out why people continue to post rumor and conjecture (that being that some reporting will be required on 1040's) that can be disproven by simply reading the bill. No more "legal information" need be provided.

Hey relax

Please remember we all are on the same side. I am just trying to insure the issue is known here too.

My "post" mentioned it is an excerpt! That means, I copied from the original and mentioned the same.

Also, there are implications not really clear (to me), but it seems you have to pay tax for a gun transfer you have to "register" it.

Anyways....

Under the bill, handguns will be treated as a destructive device (along with machine guns, grenade launchers, etc) and require both registration and licensing and a transfer tax and background check whenever sold by anyone. The restriction is lighter than for other devices but this will register ALL handguns.

RTO, are you kiddin?

We've been discussing this bill for WEEKS here. It's dead as an Egyptian mummy (THIS year). Never get out of committee, according to congresscritters in-the-know.

So, don't get yer panties in a wad. (At least, not YET)....

Yes, the bill is *that* dead. And so is this topic.

A search on "2099" in this forum yields no fewer than twelve other threads on this dead issue. Just in the last 30 days!

I'm closing this mummy's sarcophagus.
