Semi-glossing a high gloss stock

It's one of those space age finishes on a Browning lever action (older model).

I tried Wet or Dry 1500 grit but that's too coarse. It just dulls it completely.

I'm looking for something to just take the high gloss off while allowing it to continue to shine.

If you have a woodworking supply shop near you, you can buy rottenstone, it will dull off the gloss finish just the right amount. If you cannot find it locally, you can buy it from Brownells.

semi glossing

Brownell's price(on rottenstone) is 2 to3 times what it can be had an Ace hardware I use BLO or pure tung oil as a carrier when I use it.
