Semi-auto rifle choice?

Nothing military, and so far I've handled the Benelli R1 and the Remington 750 but not had a chance to shoot them. Anyone with experience with these two? And is there another choice floating around out there? Thanks in advance.

The Remington semi-autos have a reputation for being unreliable and with mediocre accurcy. The 750 may be better, but I wouldn't gamble on it. The Browning has a much better reputation for reliability and accuracy, but are heavy pigs that I wouldn't want to carry.

I have no experience with the Benelli rifles, their shotguns are superb however. They have some very unconventional looks that may take a while to get used to, and I don't know how they compare in price to the others, but if I were set on a semi-auto I'd look at the Benelli.

I like the idea of using a semi-auto hunting rifle, but I've found none of them can compare to a good bolt rifle. For a fraction of the money you can buy a bolt rifle that will be significantly lighter, more accurate, and with the most reliable and durable of all the actions.

My Father in law has an older Reminton 742, I bought him a nice Leupold Scope for it this Christmas, and helped him sight it in. I was suprised at how smooth and accurate it is.
Although it has alot of moving parts and is difficult to to dissasemble and clean. But for hunting it is a nice one.

This is a Remington 742 carbine..I set it up for hog hunting....Low recoil..real light......Pretty accurate too.....

The remington 750 is a very good rifle and dont let anyone tell you they arent accurate. They are very accurate. May not be benchrest accurate but plenty accurate for hunting and paper punching. I would also check out the browning if I were you.

I have a Rem 742 in 30-06. People tend to love'em or hate'em. Mine's a gem.

I got this one in an estate sale for $200, Bushnell scope and hard case included. It shoots sub-MOA and I upgraded the optic. No complaints, just have to be a little anal on cleaning which I am anyway.

I bought a Remington 750 in .308 a couple of years ago. Had an issue where Remington replaced the barrel under warranty, but is a tack driver with 165 gr Winchester Silver tips.
I've taken several deer and hogs with that rifle.

I have an 80's vintage Remington 7400 in .280 rem. I love it, much less recoil than a bolt action and plenty accurate with a Leo VXII 3-9x40. I keep it clean and it has never failed me. It has taken its share of Elk and deer and will continue to due so. Plus they are cheap on the used market.

If your pockets are deep enough , the Browning Short-Trac is sweet and light . They are chambered right into the short mags .

I like the Benelli guns, although I've never shot one. Very nice looking though. I also like the Browning. I had a Rem 742 in .30-06 and just didn't care for it. Nice looking, but unreliable. Don't know about the 750's.
