I must apologize in advance for my enthusiasm. Right now I feel like a kid in a candy store. I have discovered the thrill of semi-auto shotguns.
Tonight I took the opportunity to give my new 1100 Competition Master 22" barrel, 8+1 round capacity (first semi-auto shotty I've ever had) a nice, and very vigorous warming up.
I found that light target loads had a hard time cycling the new gun, but once I stepped up to game loads of 3.25 Dr Eq and 1 1/8 oz. weight, the gun cycled flawlessly, as it does with all manner of buckshot.
I've had a Mossberg 500 pump for a few years and it's been nice, ok. Good solid gun, works well. Ok.
But tonight I did some rapid firing with my new 1100CM and for the first time discovered the intense THRILL of semi-auto shotgun shooting. All I can say is a BIG WOW. After several strings of emptying 9 rounds from this gun as quickly as I could pull the trigger, I realized that no gun you hold in your hand could be more devastating to an attacker than a semi auto 12 gauge. Oh my God. These things are amazing. What a superb home protector! I've been a major handgun-type-of-guy for years, but now the shotty has certainly won my heart.
I'm initiated and have become a huge believer. Next week I'll be picking up my second semi-auto 12 gauge, an FN SLP (Self Loading Police). That should be even more fun, with it's 13" pull short stock and 18" barrel... wrapped around Winchester's ultra quick SX2 action.... all I can say is that I'd better get into reloading shot shells in a hot hurry!
To those among you who haven't tried a semi-auto shotgun, all I can say is "get you one"! you'll have more fun than you had any idea you would!
