Selling on gunbroker...buyer trying to steer me to paypal

From what I understand you can't purchase firearms using PayPal. Is this a common scam to get roped into using PayPal then burned? I don't plan on having anything to do with PayPal.

I've always dealt with postal money orders and bank cashiers checks and haven't had any issues buying or selling. Is that the best way to go?

With the frenzy in full swing I know there are both less experienced new gun owners out there and scam artists as well.
 
Good way to get ripped. You can get paid, then buyer can dispute and your card gets charged back. Since you were selling a firearm, PP will disallow your complaint.
One of my sites was based on PP and got burnt a few times too. On Ebay also.

I'll go with a 99% scam!

Paypal does not allow gun sales so you could only pay as a gift and a gift can't be contested if you don't get your gun.

Also report the seller. That is against Gunbroker rules.
 
+1 on reporting them.

Especially if they are trying to get you to "gift" them.

I know you already stated that you are not going through PP, but thought I'd add: a friend had money frozen in PP because of a gun purchase. Took a long time to get it back.
 
I would create a post on the General Discussion forum on GB this subject. The administrators and moderators will give you a fast answer.
I have never heard of paypal for a gun purchase. I know as a fact some GB sellers use paypal but for nonfirearm items only.
 
I would say its 99.9% scam.
Unless you know the person or trust them I wounldnt recommend it.
I have bought ammo with PP but I had to send it as a gift and the place I got the ammo from I spoke to the owner to make sure it would be fine. Everything went well.
 
If the OP does not mind me asking . How do you buy a gun private party on gun broker or any site like that ?

How are you guaranteed you get your gun after paying ?

I have never even considered buying online PP cus I'm not about to put out 1k and never get anything in return .

Metal God, you can't use Pay Pal to purchase a gun.

Well I should say it's not buyer protected like other purchases are.

Pay Pal only lets you buy gun related items and wants to stay out of the loop for FFL buys.

If you paid a seller using PP and send it as a Gift (Option) your money could be gone if the seller is dishonest.
 
PayPal is famous for refunding purchase monies to buyers who claim the merchandise was never received, not as described, or something similar. This is with certified delivery records, photos on the website, whatever. The seller never gets his goods back, and loses the funds to PayPal. This is even without their firearms policy which will leave you holding the bag no matter what.

Just get a check and hold for clearance of funds. That's about 10 days.

The buyer may be perfectly legitimate, I use PayPal quite a bit, it's convenient and I'm honest, and internet-savvy, able to scope out a legitimate seller from the dross, but if you're not comfortable, don't do it. Just tell him PayPal has a no firearms policy and you won't cross it.
 
I wouldn't jump to the conclusion that it's a scam. May just be a new seller that doesn't know better and sees PayPal as the quick way to transfer funds that it is.

Stick with the MO or other means that makes you both comfortable.
 
A few years ago I sold a gun on there and I had about twenty bidders. I looked at the ratings for each bidder and noticed one had a bad record of not paying. He was one of the bidders that kept putting bids in on what I was selling. I contacted GB and asked then to remove his bids and block him as a bidder. They were happy to comply. I have always had good luck buying and selling there. Contact them about your issue!

Require Postal Money Orders. If fraud occurs the Postal Inspector will get involved on your behalf (at least that is what they say they will do).
