Selling my AR, what's a fair price?

Hey guys,

I'm thinking about selling my AR-15 (money problems), but need to know what to price it at. Here's some general info on the gun / accessories it comes with, so you can help me price it. FYI, everything is less than a year old (including the gun), and most of the accessories weren't on the gun when it was fired.

Smith & Wesson M&P15 OR (shot once, total of 200 rounds through it)
-Eotech 512 (brand new in box, only mounted on gun, not fired with it on)
-Daniel Defense EZ car 7.0 quad rail
-Two P-Mags (one 30 round and one 20 round)
-Magpul MOE stock, MOE grip, and aluminum ehanced trigger guard
-Magpul BAD lever
-Magpul MBUS front and rear sights
-BCM, MOD 3, Gunfighter charging handle
-comes with all the orginal hardwear (stock, grip, handguard, ect.)

What do you guys think this setup is worth?

Well, It's worth upwards of 1500 or so. Most folks that are in the market for a second hand AR, of course, are trying to get a good deal. I would start trying to sell the rifle at 1400, but be prepared to take 1200.

Good to know... $1500 was what I was thinking to start it at, as I plan on selling it at a local gun shop (they display it / sell it, and take a small cut) and they charge to sell it.

You might do better selling the Eotech separately. Never can tell though. But it's hard getting your money out of a used AR unfortunately.

Yea I know, but really if I can sell the gun (by itself) for more than $550 I will be making money off this deal (not including the cost of the accessories or eotech), but I would like to get the most for the gun possible...

Would I be better off selling the gun for $1100 and the Eotech by itself for $350 or something?

i would definitely suggest selling the eotech and the rifle separately, simply because the people who are looking for used ar's usually aren't the type who pay $400 for glass.

talk to the people in the shop though; ask them what their recommendation is- separate or together?

My local Sporting Goods store sells S&W Optics Ready Carbine's for about $900 new.

(Just to give you an idea of the current price)

I tend to agree with that. You'd probably do a bit better selling the rifle and optic separately

definitely sell the eotech by itself... you will end up with more cash in your pocket that way...

and truthfully, expect $800-$1000 for the rifle. most people who buy used ar's dont care about the upgraded trigger or perfected magwell or other "functional" upgrades... they will look more at how it looks, and im sure there are some things on the rifle that a most buyers wont like... personally i dont like the looks of magpul grips or the upgraded charging handle you have.

BUT!!!! dont settle for $550 out of that rifle. i say start at $1000 and work to no lower than $800.

unless you need the money tonight and ill buy it for $550 :D:D

^^ lol, no I was saying I paid 550 for the rifle new, so if I make more than that selling it used I will be happy.

It sounds like selling them seperate is the way to go. If I get 1250 total from both the rifle and eotech, I'll be happy.

Unfortunately there is not a big market on used AR's at the moment. We buy them in for our shop CHEAP and they sit on the wall. I definitely agree to sell the EoTech separate. Realistically... people may not like a lot of the mods you did, so I wouldn't expect more than 800ish for the gun itself. Maybe 250$ on the EoTech. I would guess someone would maybe do both for $1000.

If it were me... I would probably reconfigure the rifle to original condition.. sell it, sell the EoTech... and piece out the parts and sell them. This however is time consuming.

I'd seriously consider parting it out. As others have pointed out, the problem with ARs is that they are so modular that very rarely is one modified just the way a buyer wants it to be. Anything they don't want, they won't pay for.

By selling off the component parts, you'll get better prices because the buyer is only paying for what they want. It is more of a pain in time and effort; but you'll get more money out of it usually.

My good friend purchased a used AR similar to yours for $1000. It had a bunch of mods but also came with the original parts. He put the gun back into its original configuration sold it for $900 and then sold all the individual parts for a total of $600. He ended up making a $500 profit and did it all through gunbroker.com. Just a thought.

If you want to sell the eotech separately; let me know. PM me.

I wish I'd seen this post earlier. I just ordered a BCM Mod-3 Charging handle and some other stuff for my M&P15OR.

The advantage you have, is that S&W has more sales than more people. The M&P15OR normally sells for around $950. But just like you, I got mine on sale. I bought mine for $650.

Anyway; if you're interested in selling the Eotech 512, let me know. FYI: Sportsmansguide.com sells the 512 eotech normally for $409.97. If you're a member; I am; then it's $368.97. http://www.sportsmansguide.com/cart/cart_view.asp I only mention this in case you spent $450-$525 for it I didn't want you to waste your time contacting me. I am flexible; but I wanted you to know what I can buy it for new. later.... mike.....

As a couple other posters pointed out, there is a glut on the market of AR 15s. Right now it's a buyer's market for them. Good luck.

well, while at the gun shop, I had some guy offer me $1500 cash for it!! So I took it. That's what I wanted to get out of it, so I'm happy! Thanks for the help all you guys.

Grats I think u did good. I would expect to only get $1000 out of the set up at least around here. I paid $800 for mine with a Magpul CTR stock, Troy Ind. quad rail, and falcon ergo grip. shipped to me.
