It is legal to sell a gun to a person that lives in another state if it is face to face. Say a person comes to me in my state and wants to buy a gun and return to his state, is this legal?
Nope...if the gun changes possession across a state line, you have to go through an FFL, even if you do the transaction in your own state. If the buyer is not a legal resident of your home state, and you sell him the gun anyway, it's a felony.
the bold type above got it, but it does beg a question
can the person selling travel with the gun to the other state, meet up with the buyer at a FFL's location and do the deal there and let the FFL fill out the paperwork?
Since in most instances you can transport a gun (long or short) across state lines if it is unloaded and locked in the trunk.... can't this work?
