Sellier & Bellot ammo

Excuse me if this has been covered before but I would like to have your opinions on Sellier & Bellot ammo in both .308 and .223.

Thanks!

kgs.

I had some of the .308 and it shot fairly well out of my M1A. Had no malfunctions with it. If I run across some more of it I would buy it.

I shoot a lot of their .223 ammo, and it's both clean and reliable.

I initially bought it because it was the closest I could find to actual M193, loaded to the full 3100 fps.

It has yet to disappoint me.

I don't know if it's a big issue, but I believe that at least some commercial S&B .223 ammos has steel-jacketed bullets (possibly with a copper wash or something). I checked some I had and it was the only .223 that attracted a magnet (to the bullet). PMP, PMC, Winchester, etc. didn't do this. This was 55 grain ammo. I don't really know if this is a problem (I'd be interested in hearing more informed opinions on this) but it's something to consider.

Steel core?

DougB - that may be a steel core used as a cheap substitute for lead, like some of the cheap 7.62x39 ammo. Either way, it shouldn't affect your barrel. The steel is very soft compared to the steel in your barrel (it's not designed to be armor piercing, contrary to the opinion of many).

If you're looking for cheap .223 ammo I hear that Wolf rounds are pretty good. I've heard the EXACT OPPOSITE for handguns but it seems that the .223 is the only round they got right.

Sellier & Bellot

I have never seen ANY of this ammo that was NOT copper flash plated, over a steel jacket.........
Go ahead and shoot it if YOU want to, but not in any $2k plus rifle or semi............
Steel on Steel........do the magnet test....you'll know for sure.
I have never seen any of it with a steel core.....AP

Steel Core Isn't armor piercing but it will pierce 1/4 inch of steel at 50yds it may do it further out than that. I was with a guy who shot ball ammo at a steel plate and it bounced right off or just exploded. Then he shot it with USGI SS109 and it blew right on threw. And that was with a 16inch AR

Wolf Ammo/ .5.56

Heard this stuff will gum up a chamber on an AR................the lacquer cating seems to build up, and cause jams............
