Sellier & Bellot .44Mag SP appraisal

Some may know that, after some deliberation, I have just acquired and nice Redhawk .44.

The cheapest ammo I have found is Sellier & Bellot Soft Point.

Is this a decent round for the range? (I can't get .44 Spl, but I will look into speacial orders if it is cheaper or significantly more comfortable to shoot)

In .44 I suspect it is perfectly adequate for HD, but what about against large animals in the wild, should they be agressive...?

My experience with S&B has been good, but that's only .45acp FMJ.

I'd think the cheapest stuff you can find would be good for range fodder. But it may not be the best for defense or hunting as they may not expand as reliably as the more expensive choices.

You should consider adding your location to your profile to avoid folks referring you to online sources in the States. We don't need your address, but a major nearby city or even your country would help...

While I've not used that loading specifically, I've shot S&B in many other calibers with a variety of bullet types (FMJ, JSP, JHP) and never had any complaints about it. As range ammo, I've always found it to be just as good as Prvi Partizan, Fiocchi, Geco, RWS, WWB, UMC, Blazer Brass, American Eagle, or Federal Champion.

I think any bullet that comes from that earsplittinglittleloudandboomer will work for HD/SD.

I've used S&B in 9mm and 45acp with good results. If you can order some 44 spl by all means try some. They will calm that magnum down to say a chin dribble. ;)

If you can find it, get some PMC 240 gr JHP. It was inexpensive like S&B, yet incredibly accurate, when I was still shooting my Redhawk. It was my favorite load.
