Sell Saiga .308 and buy a Ruger Scout, good idea?

Title says it all. I have a wood stock 22" Saiga .308 with an 8x POSP scope, and about 5 20-25 round magazines, that I am thinking about selling along with my Savage 99 in 308 and putting the proceeds toward buying a Ruger Scout Rifle.

Tell me if anyone sees any problems in my thinking.

I've gotten older and, from a practical standpoint, see how bolts are better than autos in some areas. With the bolt I won't have to go hunting all over the range for my brass, I can shoot neck sized reloads instead of having to FL size everything, I can even shoot cast reloads like I do in my Savage 340. As far as rate of fire I have gotten quite quick with my FR-8. The only difference with the Ruger will be the bent bolt handle, detachable mag, and ability to mount optics. if I need rate of fire I have several other guns to chose from already.

With my Savage 99.......it hates reloads. Works fine with factory. Took it out today and got another fired case stuck in the chamber. I probably need small base dies, something I am unwilling to do and have it unable to shoot my other .308 ammo.

I figure I should be able to sell both and have the money to buy the Ruger. Can anyone give me any reason to avoid the Ruger and keep my Saiga? I just want to make sure that I'm not missing anything obvious.

I doubt it..... it just does like not the reloads you are feeding it.

I would LOVE to have a Savage 99 ..... then again, I would love to have a Ruger Scout Rifle ..... but after buying TheBoy a Ruger Frontier that was just screamng my name, I'm tapped out for awhile ....

I realize and mentioned that in my OP. The chamber seems tight and I probably need small base dies to get it to work. I don't want a gun that is that picky on ammo.

I am in the same boat as you, selling an AK to fund my obsession with the Ruger GSR, so you won't get any argument from me against it.

I haven't gotten that far yet dvdcrr, but once I dig out all the mags I have, I think i have one factory, 3 FBMG and 3 Surefire, and take photos I'll start thinking about price.

This keeps looking like a better and better idea, I LOVE shooting neck sized ammo because it makes the brass last so long and is super fast to reload.:)

If you are shooting 308 through your Saiga then trying to reload for your Savage 99 you will have issues.

However, if you want a scout setup, replace the gas cylinder on your Saiga with one that has a Picatinny rail on top then put on a forward EER scope.

You will gain nothing in terms of functionality going from the Saiga to the Ruger.
