Self Reliance - Individually

I would prefer a society with far far fewer laws, and much more self reliance. However I am where I am. I therefore prefer to live barely within the laws of where I am, and be self reliant, depending upon myself and not upon society to secure my welfare.

I prefer to carry a weapon that puts me on an equal footing with anyone who desires to disturb me. In my locale, that requrires that I submit myself to a "fitness review" to purchase the right to carry a weapon so as to be able and ready to defend myself. I find this inherently ludicrous, but I pretend to bow to it, after all, I am where I am.

The police in my locale tend to be historians more than defenders. They defend me only by the generalized pricnicple that eventually they might catch you someday, if you break the law. They depend upon deterrence in a world that does not often recognize deterrence. Typically they show up after the crime has been committed and write down the facts, and file the facts in a report, and the report goes nowhere and does nothing. Historians, as I said.

At the crucial moment when I need defending, the police will not be present, but of course I will. I therefore prefer to be armed, and able, and ready.

I therefore choose to be armed from now on. I choose to take care of myself, to be responsible for my own welfare, to be ready able and willing to stand alone and to stand free against the corrupt. This is a matter of conscience, and I choose to do this. The actual license is but a detail, and not a truly necessary one.

Where do you stand?

Amen brother.

IZHUMINTER got robbed about a month ago. They took his shotgun and one of his pistols when he wasn't home. The police recovered the shotgun in Louisiana, but the pistol is still out there. So if someone tries to sell you a Colt CCO, run a check to make sure it isn't his. Thanks everybody.

Youdaman, Butch!

Butch, I stand with you - you are 1000% in the right! I would imagine 90%+ of Firing Line members would stand with you.

That having been said, don't get caught carrying without a government-issued permission slip! "The Government" takes that personally, even though it is none of their F**KING business who carries what, convicted felons excepted.

I hear you loud and clear Progunner1957. I hear you. And thank you for standing next to me. I thank all of you who stand next to me.

I agree with your premise that we are responsible for our own safety. I disagree with being on an equal footing with dirtbags, I believe in being on an unfair footing (in my favor of course). I plan on never getting in a fair fight if at all possible, I want the advantage, an unfair advantage.

I moved out of New York partly because the atmosphere in that state creates victims at the mercy of the state.

Unfortunately I have to go back to NY on business. As much as I would like to carry there I will not give some Barney a cheap shot at arresting me on a weapons charge. It feels like going to some third world poopyhole when I go back.

Strange where I live now we have no police presence but little violent crime. But 30 miles to the north in NY crime is a constant problem in a small city with a full time PD.

I stand gratefully corrected. I too want as much advantage as I can get. I am not looking for a fair fight, I am looking for a quick and decisive result in my favor.

Great movie line.....
The new cavalry lieutenant, chasing a band of marauding indians, complained to the old scout (Burt Lancaster), "Why won't they stop and fight us?". The scout answered, "They don't want to fight with you, they want to kill you."
