Another one, from Sammy the Bull's interview in Vanity Fair:

"Gun control? It's the best thing you can do for crooks and gangsters," Gravano said. "I want you to have nothing. If I'm a bad guy, I'm always gonna have a gun. Safety locks? You will pull the trigger with a lock on, and I'll pull the trigger. We'll see who wins."

"Our country won't go on forever, if we stay as soft as we are now. There won't be an America because some foreign soldiery will invade us and take our women and breed a hardier race"- LtGen Lewis B. "Chesty" Puller

"So they've got us surrounded? Good now we can fire in any direction, those bastards won't get away from us this time!"-Col Lewis B. Chesty Puller after being informed that his Marine division was surrounded by 8 chinese divisions.

I've got a bunch listed here.

Notable ones:

The ultimate aim of the martial arts is not having to use them.
- Miyamoto Musashi

"When you're good, you don't have to be violent. The technique almost takes the volence out of it."
- Announcer of the '94 Ultimate Fighting Championship

"People sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf."
- George Orwell

"Only somone who has mastered violence can truly choose to be non-violent. The taoists and buddists who developed the eastern martial arts understood this. Ignoring the problems of violence do not make them go away."
- Kit Lewis

ctdonath: I went to your website (which I have bookmarked) and found the following:
quote:
Necessity is the plea for every infringment of human liberty. It is the argument of tyrants, it is the creed of slaves.
- E. Vigilance 1998[/quote]

The author of that one was William Penn.

Also, the Sarah Brady quote about "socialist America" is a complete falsehood. As much as we'd all like to believe she actually said this, she never did. I'm sure she thinks it, though.

More quotes:

No nation can remain free unless its people cherish their freedoms, understand the responsibilities they entail, and nurture the will to preserve them.- John F. Kennedy

This country, with its institutions, belongs to the poeple who inhabit it. Whenever they shall grow weary of the existing government, they can exercise their constitutional right of amending it, or their revolutionary right to dismember it or overthrow it.- Abraham Lincoln

All of us who are concerned for peace, reason and justice must be keenly aware how small influence reason and honest goodwill exert upon events in the political field.- Albert Einstein

Security is mostly a superstion. It does not exist in nature, nor do children of humans as a whole experience it. Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than outright exposure. Life is either a daring adventure or nothing.- Helen Keller

A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidate promising the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship.
The average age of the world's greatest civilizations has been 200 years. These nations have progressed through this sequence: from bondage to spiritual faith. From spiritual faith to great courage. From courage to liberty. From liberty to abundance. From abundance to complacency. From complacency to apathy. From apathy to dependence. From dependence back again into bondage.- Prof. Alexander Tyler, over 200 years ago while the US was still a British colony

"I'd rather be judged by 12 than carried out by 6."

"It's either him or me, and right now, I choose me."

"We are all but sheep living in a wolf pack world, a firearm is the only thing that acts as the great equalizer."

"Best defense is a strong offense."

I don't know who said most of those, but sure sounded like words of wisdom to me!

Albert
