Seeking a light weight 4:1 hoist setup

Hello All,

I'm trying to figure out a light weight 4:1 hoist setup to do two things.

1. I hunt alone, and need some help getting my animal into/onto my cargo tray.

2. I will be Elk hunting in October, and there's a likelihood/possiblilty (if I'm so lucky of course) that I will need to hoist my animal into a tree while I go get my cart and hunting companions for assistance in retrieving the animal.

I have seen some very low-cost steel pulley systems, but I'm looking for something lighter in weight.

Thoughts/ideas?

Just search sailboat pulley for more... racing sailboat pulley, race yacht pulley will also get you o some nice ones... Those chinese steel ones are junk and these can be had with breaks and even anti reverse ratchet feature as well.

A simple 1:1 block works great with a vehicle to do the pulling. A 500lb rated one should do great.

Go down to Home Depot and find a lightweight 3:1 block and tackle, typically about $15-20.

I use one of the Cabelas locking hoists 4:1 and their light weight gambrel. It'll lift 1000 pounds with out any problem. It must weigh all of 3 or 4 pounds. There is also plenty of rope to lift an elks nose off the ground for skinning.
