Security Six - looking for grips

Greeting to all. This is my first post. Hope I'm doing this correctly. I am looking for grips to fit a Security Six (s/n prefix is 150-) which Ruger dates to 1972. Was thinking about Pachmayr, but am undecided. I may go with something keeping more to original appearance. Anyone have any experience with fitting Pachmayr grips to this revolver? Does anyone know a reliable source for grips that would look "original"? I've already contacted Ruger. They still have some parts, but no grips.

Just heard back from Pachmayr. They state they have no grips available for a model of this age (1972). I see the grips from CDNN. Pricing looks almost too good to be true!? Thanks for the direction.

The CDNN grips are not for the early(150 series)Security Sixes! They only sell grips for the newer model(151 and up!)Security Sixes!

I would recommend that you watch eBay auctions for some Herrett's "Shooting Stars" wood grips for the(150 series)Ruger Security Six! These were made for both the(150)and the(151 and up!)Security Sixes and are very nice looking target grips, that are styled very original looking, to the "Classic" design of these early Security Sixes! The Herrett's box for these grips, will be marked in large(Bold)letters, as follows:

1)150 series, will be marked RSS(Ruger Security Six)and, Ruger Security Six will also be shown on the box(In very small print)!

2)151 series, will be marked RNSS(Ruger New Security Six)and, Ruger New Security Six will also be shown on the box(In very small print)!

3)NOTE: On both of the above Herrett's grips, if no box is available with an auction for these, remember to ask the eBay seller, to look on the inside of these grips for a sticker that will either read RSS or, RNSS? :D

I used to own a(150 series)Security Six and I did the above and found a set of these Herrett's "Shooting Stars" grips-and, my Security Six looked very handsome indeed with these! Although these grips don't come up on eBay everyday, I have seen them to appear from time to time, on a regular basis!

What boa2 said. Also some of the Jay Scott grips were made to fit the 150 and 151 guns. The easy way to tell if they'll fit both guns is they have 2 grip pin holes. I bought a pair of Jay Scott checkered walnut grips off e-bay for $20.00.

You could also modify the grip frame to take the later model grips. i did my 150 pre-fix gun and it turned out great. It only took about an hour.

Lett Grips makes the grips for Ruger. They also make and sell excellent custom grips for Rugers of all kinds. I just bought a pair for my old Vaquero - grips and service excellent.

www.lettgrips.com

They are the most likely source, great people. My grips were shipped the same day they were ordered.

Mark

The Lett Grips Company stopped making the grips for the older 150 series and also the (151 and up, series)Security Six, Service Six, and the Speed Six revolvers, years ago! Their double action revolver grips, are only made for the GP100 and the SP101 revolvers!

It is true however, that Lett does make grips for Ruger's older single action revolvers! :D

I don't where you live, but here there are several gunsmith shops. In the past I've gone to them because they all have a box of old grips that they took off when doing a re-finish. In my case the smiths just set the box in front of me and let me scrounge. So far I've found Pachmayer Grippers for one of my M28's and a pair of magna grips for my M49. In the case of the Pachs I was charged $10.00 and the Magnas ran me $5.00. I recall seeing older style Ruger wood grips for the Security Six series and a set of wood grips fro a Python.

Just another possibility - in case you're still looking. Half the fun can be in the looking.

Do searches on Ebay. They pop up from time to time. There is a guy on Gunbroker selling some too, but he has kind of unrealistic price expectations
