Security-Six Grip Problem

Cold Steel

After grinding the grips of three more of my Security-Sixes, I found that all three of my Pachmayr grips (Compacs) have gaps that won't close at the back top part of the backstrap. Everything else seems to fit without a problem, except for the one on the far right, which I'm going to do more grinding on. Does anyone know what the problem might be and if there's a way to fix the problem? Both grips are new, but have been kicking around in my basement safe for a few years. Rubber looks brand new, though. Black and shiny. I was thinking about grinding a little off the bottom of my grip to see if I could refit the grip a bit better but don't want to run afoul of the friendly, neighborhood ATF. The serial numbers would still be visible, but I just prefer not to grind away on the bottom.

Oh, and I was wondering if there might be any liquid rubber products on the market or "wedges" that could fill in the gap. I suspect on these particular guns the Ruger factory just left too much steel on the bottom. I can always use the standard square-butts, but I really prefer the round-butts.

Thanks!

Mine does the same thing, but to a lesser degree. If it gets worse, my plan is to glue the rear edge together with E-6000 or Goop, which, if you let it really cure for a couple of days, can be incredibly strong and durable. I can tell you that regular E-6000 will hold up to daily UV right on the ocean for decades and will still remain flexible.

BTW, you can get E-6000 in black.

Nice taste in Rugers. I have a couple of sets of Compacs stashed for a Speed Six if I can ever find one. I love the way my Security Six handles with the Compacs.

It's an aggravating problem, especially when I go through the trouble of altering my Security-Six grips to take the miserable things. These are the only Pachmayrs I've had that exhibit this, but again, these are the only Compacs I've got. I'm hoping Pachymayr will replace them.

I'm also wondering if heating the grips would do any good.

Anyway, thanks!
