Secret Service type grip for L Frame Smith

Hey all,

I've never seen pictures--or even heard of--L-frame Smiths with small boot grips. Does it have a poor center of balance with these grips, or are they simply not made? Regardless, I've only seen gigantic wood or synthetic grips for Smiths.

Any insight would be fantastic. Thanks a lot!

K-frame wood grips work fine on L-frame guns.

My L-frames are either 4" guns with wood grips (factory target stocks on the square-butt 581 and a cocobolo Hogue monogrip on the round-butt 646) or 2.5" guns with synthetic "boot grip" type grips on them (686 currently sporting Hogue Bantams in rubber until I can get around to putting wood grips on it, and a 296 wearing the factory Uncle Mike's grips because it lives in my purse, so who cares what it looks like? ;) )

here's my 66 with eagle secret service grips.......

Nice looking firearm there Tomkatz! Are those grips the checkered rosewood? I may just have to pick up a set.

Yes they are the checkered rosewood, eagle makes some very nice grips.......I plan to get them for a couple other guns in the very near future.......tom

Nice grips! I've been thinking about getting a pair of those. Can you get a full grip or does your pinky hang off the bottom?

I would say I get a full grip, much better than a j frame boot grip.....they are very comfortable grips.....tom

indigo-357,

I've attached a shot of my 19-5 with the SS grips on. Hope this is enough quality to help you. I'm not much of a photographer, compared to others, certainly.

Thanks, Indigo. We all get lucky once in a while, ;) like here: http://www.thefiringline.com/forums/showthread.php?t=153271

This set of grips is the second I bought from Eagle. I got some for my PPK/S earlier. They do good work. But so do many others. I've seen lots of nice grips on L-frames, too, from lots of different makers. You shouldn't have too much trouble finding some good ones. On the stainless guns, I like the wood 'redder', but that's my own preference. On the ones in the picture, I darkened them a bit with some stain, to suit me. No offense to Eagle, they were fine as purchased. I just get a bit wacky when I look at grips, and when bored, I have to play. :D

Actually, as Eagle makes clear, sometimes a 'bit' of hand fitting is required, so I felt had to do something. They were 'natural' when I got them, and I could have just used a good tung oil or something and they would have been fine.
