Secondary/backup weapons...what and where?

LE officers...what do you carry and where? Kind of an informal poll here:

I am just under 19 years on duty in LE.
I carry a Ruger SP101 .357 in a chest pocket on my vest.
I used to carry it in an ankle holster but started pinching an nerve in my leg so switched to the trauma plate pocket. It is actually quicker to retrieve than the ankle holster.

When I worked uniform patrol (about 21 years ago) I wore at least two handguns, main belt gun (of various makes/calibers), and a .38 Charter Arms in an ankle holster. In the winter, I wore an additional gun, a Browning.380 in a shoulder holster, covered by an "Ike" jacket. Also had two or three knives stashed in various places.

I had a guy once ask why I carried three guns, I told him I just didn't have room for four! Of course, also had a shotgun in the car, and would, on special occasions, take an AR along.

Never be outgunned if it's up to you. And, most of the time , is IS up to you!:D:eek:

I like that! Ask someone if they want to go to a gun and knife show and just open your jacket!

My main carry weapon is a Smith and Wesson 4006.

Also have a Colt M-16 and Remington Shotgun(Man I wish they would let us carry Beretta 1201FP's!!!)

My main on duty carry is a Les Baer Custom Carry 1911 and my backup is a Walther PPK/S.

As to where on my person I carry that, well... we wouldn't want to broadcast that on the Internet, would we? ;)

Knives? Cold Steel Ti Lite.

When I worked as a Fed Narc in the 70's I was issued a Model 66 snub at one point. The issue Bucheimer holster was nothing to write home about, but I carried it around superiors in meetings ect. I carried a satin nickled Colt Combat Commander in a Bruce Nelson made (similar to a Sparks 55BN) belt holster when going into serious situations. Either way a Colt Agent .38 was carried as a back up, usually in a Seventrees ankle rig (bell bottoms worked really great for this!)by Paris Theodore, I was working his turf at the time. I sent all the way to Calif. for the Nelson rig as I met another agent who had one and it was Da Bomb!

I won't go in to my On-Duty Carry, but Off-Duty it's an N-Frame 4" Revolver and a S&W 442 in the support side pocket or when driving, on the ankle.

I am not in LE.

I nomally carry a SA TRP 1911 as my main gun, and always have a Keltec P3AT in my back pocket.

SloMo: At one time, afetr going to work in my present job as a state fire investigator, I had a bout 7 or 8 handguns at anyone time in my vehicle, mostly for the occasional informal shooting session, or for trading material. Never felt unarmed, anyway.

I personally like the S&W third generation autos...I have an ugly 5904 in 9MM, it is a shooting gem! I keep it in my pick-up with an extra magazine or two. Always feel plenty safe with it close by!

Learnt to shoot well with whatever weapon you're issued, or just happen to have for protection. Your life depends on it. FM12

I stopped a car on the interstate once. The trunk was darn near dragging the pavement...I asked the guy what he had in there that was so heavy...he said guns and ammunition...we had a look. Geez was I jealous! The guy had some nice pieces. About 30 of them. Talked guns for about 30 minutes and then sent him on his way.

Hi everyone. On-duty main is a Sig p226. Backup and its location vary depending on my mood. Plus, I like to keep the bg's and my supervisor's guessing ;)
