second range update

This is an update from a couple weeks ago. I'm trying to fine tune the load in my gun. From my first post,

Remington 700 ADL 7mm Rem Mag (bone stock except I adjusted the trigger pull)
Talley lightweight rings
Vortex Viper HS LR 4x16-44

168 Berger VLD
Norma brass
Retumbo
CCI-250
COAL 3.40 about .020" off the lands
(previous load was .070" off the lands)

I jerked the third shot, with out the third shot it was about .5 inch.

Same load two days later. Once again I jerked the third shot. I'm known for shooting two really good shots and getting all excited that I think I'm gonna shoot a good group and eff it all up.:D

I asked because my 7mm strings shots as it heats up similar to the pattern in your pic. During load development I will wait for the barrel to cool completely before taking the next shot.

Another little update. Sense I found a decent load I loaded up 40 rounds and went to the range to get it zeroed in shoot a bit. I either had a bad day or my gun finally fouled out. Packed up and went home and tried it again the next day. Same thing, couldn't get better than a 2" group at 100yards so I'm gonna say it's time for a good copper cleaning. The reason why I think it's copper fouled is because it went form shooting .75 MOA or better to around 2 MOA. It shot good sense the gun was new and now that I have put about 100 rounds through it the accuracy is really falling off. Atleast that's the only reason I can come up with why my gun went from good accuracy to not acceptable accuracy when I haven't changed anything.

No---I was just kidding about that.:D You had a couple of groups that you stated the 3rd round was a pull on your part. So if you only shoot two rounds then.....

Be sure to check all your scope screws and your action screws. I had a rifle that was shooting real well and accuracy went to hell, I too thought it was copper fouling, checked the action screws and they were a bit loose, tightened them up and my groups did the same.

Some barrels build copper fast. In your shoes I would squirt some BoreTech Eliminator into the barrel and let it sit 15 minutes, push it out. Repeat a couple of times until it stops coming out deep cobalt blue.

When you've got the copper out, get some JB Bore paste or Iosso Bore Cleaner in a tube and use a couple patches wrapped around a bore brush to apply it, going back and forth to polish the bore surface a little. About 50 strokes should help. If it remains severe, consider a little light firelapping.
