I'm looking for a recomendation on a second handgun.
I subscribe to the theory "beware the man with one gun". My one gun is a HK USP40c (which I just traded my USP9c for). This gun serves as a HD, CCW, and a trail gun. I've also owned, but sold a S&W 686 4" and a Ruger 22/45. I didn't enjoy either and didn't use them. I do currently own a 12g shotgun whose primary role is backup HD (I live in a small appartment and it is difficult to get a shotgun arround).
I'm interrested in another hangun for the following reasons:
1. Incase the .40c is away for maintanence (hasn't happened yet, but it is possible).
2. To decrease wear and tear on the .40c (I know that it takes a lot for an HK).
3. In case I was ever (unfortunately) involved in a self defense shooting and the police confiscated the weapon. This is assuming that I'm not arrested or all weapons are confiscated. This is of particular interrest incase the attacker has family or friends that want revenge and I might not be able to get another weapon right away.
I'm definitely leaning towards another .40 or a .45, but I'm open to some level of suggestion. The possibilities that I'm considering are:
1. HK USPf in either .40 or .45. The benifite of both is that the manual of arms is the same. The .40 has the additional benifite of firing the same cartridge as the .40c. The .45 is well a .45 (enough said).
2. Another .40c possibly in SS (if they still do that). The benifits to this would be shared mags, and interchangable parts if TSHTF. Although I'm not sure if I like the Idea of buying the exact same weapon. It seems almost like a waste of money.
3. Something else. I definitely don't want a revolver. I have not enjoyed shooting any glocks (17, 19, 22). I like Sigs, and Walthers, but am concerned with the different manual of arms.
Any weapon that I buy would have to be capable of HD, CCW, and being a trail gun. Preferably it would do one or more better than the .40c, but wouldn't have to and I'm willing to sacrifice a little in one of these areas. Ammunition cost is not an issue as I will shoot the same regardless of what I own (about 100 rounds every other week).
Thanks for any input. Sorry about the length of the post.
