This is a spin off of the recent thread "another gun/knife pic. . . wanna play". We never have enough ammo pics it seems and I'm interested in what you folks are carrying day to day for SD. All calibers are welcome and I hope to see some .357sigs and 10mms as well. If you carry something different than the masses, lets hear about it, and give the specs ( velocity /energy ) If you don't have a camera or the time to post a pic, just let us know what you carry.

For some reason, I love the way a hollow point looks sitting on a table. Of course, a picture of your firearm is always welcome:D

I don't have any pics, but these are what I use.

10mm - DoubleTap 135gr Nosler JHP 1600 fps / 767 ft lbs

.357 Sig - Double Tap 125gr Sierra JHP 1450 fps / 584 ft lbs.

Here's a shot of my carry ammo for my Glock 33. I shot this one through 2 5gal buckets of used motor oil and picked it up off the dirt mound behind the 2nd bucket..

Speer Gold Dot 125gr 1350fps 506 ft-lbs

I use 155-grain Federal Hydra-Shok. I understand its an outdated round, so im looking for a new round. I'm nervous to leave Federal though. Probably 1000 of the 1200 rounds through my Beretta are Federal, with no failures. I'm afraid it won't like anything else

ck nice pic....
i wanted to test a few SD rounds my self to see which performed the best.

to test i used some 64oz gatoraid bottles laid on the side w/ a milk jug behind full of water. shooting through the cap of the gatoraid bottle the rounds stopped in the milk jugs. shooting from 8-10 yds

i tested winchester pdx, speer gold dot, and hornady critical defense.
40 cal 165 gr bullets

i was suprised to see how the hornady did. the results looked more like what they say the comp. bullets look like. NONE on them expanded!

the speer opened completely and the winchester did well also.

i'll post the pics if some one tells me how.

Winchester .38spl +P PDX1 130gr bonded JHP.

Shot those rounds from my 2" snub. 15" of penetration in calibrated gelatin, perfect expansion. If only they came in a 158gr that opened up reliably, they would be the perfect carry ammo.

This is going to take a couple of post.

Great pics six_rounds. I agree, if the 158gr won't expand then you problably end up with too much penetration.

redrick, those speers look nasty:D - I found a couple of reviews on youtube for speer gold dots in multiple calibers. They really perform well in the " light for caliber" loads.

I only have pics that include the delivery service for my favorite rounds by caliber. :D

Ranger Talon 127+P+ 9mm

Pic017.jpg

I fired several of my original 147 gr 9mm Black Talons back in the day and the recovered bullets expanded and "reached out" exactly as advertised. :D Wish I had taken pics back then. Original Black Talons are a bit precious to shoot these days and the modern day Ranger Ts are even more advanced versions anyway.

Federal Personal Defense 125 gr JHP .357 Mag

I like all the premium level 125s, any of these shoot like a dream in my 686. Especially Hornady 125 Critical Defense, but no shots of those.

Lastly the venerable Winchester Silver Tip 225 gr JHP .45 Colt

Pic012.jpg

It's a mild round, but then again, the only .45 Colt I have at present is pushing 100 years. Still, it's an awfully big slug and I'd hate to be hit by it....one day when I pick up a .45 Colt Blackhawk, I'll have to look into some very fast flying ashtrays. :D
