Screwed in Virginia?

Looks like Virginians need to stay alert. Governor Kaine had a press conference today (I listened live). When asked about students at VT not being able to CC there because of the recent decision, he responded by saying he loathed anyone trying to push an agenda in a time like this (I'm paraphrasing).

That sounded good...but when asked by another reporter about the effect of the expired federal weapons ban on the incident and the possibility of potential legislation in Virginia, he simply said (again, I am paraphrasing) that he didn't know the details of the expired weapons ban, but policy questions would be looked at later.

It could be paranoia on my part, but it sure seems he treated these two issues differently. Plus, he is a democrat. Are you telling me the press and the anti's aren't "pushing an agenda"?

Stay alert? :)

Remember, this is the same Mayor Kaine who had to repay the city money he used to send buses to the Million Mom March.

Richmond Times-Dispatch article excerpt:

Democratic gubernatorial candidate Timothy M. Kaine said yesterday he hired eight buses to take people to the "Million Mom March" rally in Washington in 2000 out of compassion for the families of murder victims in Richmond.
"My heart worked too fast," Kaine told a caller on the Jimmy Barrett morning show on WRVA Radio.

Kaine, who is Virginia's lieutenant governor, was Richmond's mayor in 2000.

He first tried to use taxpayer funds from his "Paygo" account to pay for the transportation to the gun-control rally. When that drew criticism, he raised the $6,000 privately.

At the time, Richmond had the nation's second-highest homicide rate, Kaine noted.

"I went to too many funerals, too many crime scenes," Kaine said.

In view of Kaine's role in the rally, a caller asked how Kaine stood on the Second Amendment right to bear arms.

Kaine described himself as a strong supporter of the right to bear arms, noting that he helped write a state constitutional amendment to guarantee the right to hunt and fish and was a big booster of Project Exile, a federal program supported by the National Rifle Association that imposed tougher sentences for the use of a fireman in com- mission of a crime. One of the originators of that program has said Kaine played a minor role.

Someone using the VT tragedy to push an agenda? That's disgusting Sarah Brady....

Spread the word. We must continue to educate Americans about the easy access to high powered guns, especially military style weapons with high capacity ammunition magazines that are capable of delivering devastating fire-power very quickly. Let people know that in VA you can buy an assault weapon or semi-automatic handgun at a gun show from an private seller WITHOUT a background check, NO identification and NO questions asked. While you need a permit to carry a concealed weapon in the state of VA, there are NO restrictions on carrying openly, even handguns. We must work to keep guns out of the wrong hands.

Above was taken from her blog posted the day after. She's a vampire praying on ignorance, fear and the pain of others.

Good! There should be tougher penalites for using a fireman in the commission of a crime. It is simply dispicable to treat our valiant first-responders in such a fashion. :p
