I am sure many of you are aware of this, but I thought I would mention it anyway. In gun work, there is very often a case where a screw is set deep into a hole. An example would be the backstrap and rear trigger guard screws on a Colt Single Action Army or copy.
If the wrong shape of screwdriver is used on those screws, the edges of the screwdriver can score the inside of the hole, leaving spiral gouges. So, besides making sure the blade itself is properly shaped, make sure the edges of the blade are rounded off and polished so there is no sharp corner to gouge out the sides of the hole the screw is in.
(Before you ask, no I didn't do it. But I saw a nice SAA at the weekend show that had score marks in the backstrap holes, and thought I would mention this.)
